Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is currently seeking an ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF LABOR RELATIONS to assist the Director of Labor Relations in the work of labor negotiations for certificated and classified personnel of the District. This position works out of the central LAUSD offices at 333 South Beaudry Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90017.


THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate for the position of ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF LABOR RELATIONS is a labor relations and negotiation professional with experience negotiating collective bargaining agreements, ideally within the public sector.


They will have extensive knowledge of labor law, familiarity with the Public Employment Relations Board and Educational Employment Relations Act as well as an understanding of the District’s mission, goals, structure and operational activities.


The ideal candidate has a proven track record of successfully reaching mutually agreeable outcomes in union negotiations and contractual arbitrations. They will be skilled in developing positive relationships with labor partners and working successfully with numerous stakeholders who hold varying interests and perspectives. They are organizationally savvy and have the ability to understand the political dynamics and interrelationships within a large public organization and the communities it serves.


The ideal candidate will have experience managing a labor team and supporting others’ career growth.


They will also possess the ability to maintain an open and approachable manner, build rapport with diverse constituents at all organizational levels. And importantly, be professionally resilient and thrive in a high-demand complex work environment.


ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation* from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree. A master’s degree or higher in industrial or organizational psychology, public administration, human resources, education, law, or a related field is preferred.


Experience: Four (4) years of experience in professional personnel administration or other equivalent professional experience.


Two (2) years of the required experience must have included performing labor relations duties and labor negotiations. Management responsibility that required oversight of multiple projects through assigned managers and/or supervisors is preferred.


OR


Five (5) years of experience with an organization with responsibility for labor negotiations, conciliation, mediation, resolution or arbitration of organizational disputes as a practicing member of the California Bar.


Special: Authorization to practice law in California by the California State Bar Association, is preferable.


A valid California driver license and the availability of private transportation, or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation.
