About the State Fair of Texas

Since its inception in 1886, the State Fair of Texas has celebrated all things Texan by promoting agriculture, education, and community involvement through quality entertainment in a family-friendly environment. The State Fair of Texas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with proceeds helping to preserve and improve our home, Fair Park; underwrite museums, community initiatives, and scholarship programs to support students throughout the Lone Star State pursuing higher education; and help improve State Fair operations.

Summary

The advance ticket sales and fulfillment agent will be responsible for producing a high volume of

detail-oriented work in a technological and phone customer facing environment. This position is

to help provide fulfillment and support services to season pass, daily ticket, and group ticket

holders visiting the State Fair of Texas.

DUTIES And RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions

  • Provide Fulfillment Office staffing and coordination for the 2023 State Fair of Texas including pre-season fulfillment activities and all 24 days of the annual State Fair of Texas.
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders through face-to face, online, phone, and written communications.
  • Interact with guests to address their concerns, answer their questions, and assist them with their needs. Provide information about products and services. Possesses strong attention to detail to accurately take and fill orders.
  • Comfortable dealing with complaints with ability to de-escalate the situation utilizing empathy, active listening, self-control, and patience.
  • Support guest purchases, student outreach, corporate employee ticket, and ticket voucher programs.
  • Support guest purchases for daily advance ticket sales and Season Pass sales.
  • Be a power-user and leader in using official ticketing software and fulfillment programs.
  • Prepare documents using word processing, business spreadsheet and database software.

Requirements

EXPERIENCE and TRAINING GUIDELINES

Any combination of experience that would likely provide the required knowledge is qualifying.

Qualifications

  • Understanding and alignment with the core values of the State Fair of Texas.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in Ticket Office, POS, Banking, Hospitality, Shipping, Retail Management or Instructional procedures and operations.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.
  • Knowledge of Ticketing system software, specifically Accesso ShoWare preferred, not required.
  • Preference for applicants Bi-lingual in Spanish

Preferred Education And/or Experience

  • High School Diploma and 5+ years of experience in a related field such as Ticketing, Banking, Hospitality, Shipping, Retail Management, or Instructional procedures and operations.
  • 1+ year(s) of supervisory experience in a related field such as Ticketing, Banking, Hospitality, Shipping, Retail Management, or Instructional procedures and operations.
  • Oral and written communication.

License Or Certificate

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate Texas driver's license.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED and EXERCISED

  • Receives direct supervision from Manager – Ticketing
  • Team player who works independently with minimal supervision.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environmental Conditions

  • Primarily an office environment; extended exposure to computer screens.
  • Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. Walking on uneven and/or slippery surfaces, as necessary, especially during Fair time and special events.

Physical Conditions

  • Essential and other important responsibilities and duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for:
  • Remaining in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time.
  • Moving short and long distances to access office supplies, meet guests, perform duties within Fairgrounds, etc.
  • Verbally communicate with both internal and external contacts.
  • Occasionally lift objects no more than 25 pounds unassisted.
