The Chicago School

Adjunct Faculty – Undergraduate General Education - Online

The Chicago School United States

Job Description:

The General Education Department is seeking highly qualified candidates for adjunct faculty positions for the online campus. This is an evergreen posting, which serves as a repository of applicants to pull from when a position within the General Education department becomes available.

This position requires subject matter expertise in the area in which the adjunct faculty member will teach. with the added ability to incorporate a co-requisite component to allow added support for first-year students with no prior testing or course history so they do not spend an extra term or money taking a developmental prerequisite math course. The Chicago School is interested in developing courses that make real-world connections to the subject matter.

Online courses at The Chicago School are taught through the Canvas learning management system. Prior to teaching, all new adjunct faculty members in Online Programs will participate in our 7-week Teaching Online Pedagogy and Standards (TOPS) course, which covers best practices and new developments in online teaching and learning.

Principal Duties:

The candidate will teach one or more courses within their field of experience during a course term. Courses may be offered for one or more terms throughout the academic year. There are a total of six terms, each lasting eight weeks. Instruction of the course will include engaging students through discussion, assignments, and lab exercises as outlined in the course syllabus. Instructors will provide students with substantive feedback in a timely manner and respond to student questions and concerns. Adjunct instructors are expected to attend departmental meetings, professional development, and events virtually at least once during the teaching term.

Position Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a master’s degree in the particular field of study relating to the course. (For example, if the course being taught is an English Composition course, the candidate should hold a master’s degree or higher in English. If the course is a mathematics course, the master’s degree should be a mathematics degree). A doctoral degree is preferred.
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate level is a must. Online teaching experience is preferred.

Candidates with experience using technology in the classroom are strongly encouraged to apply.

In the application materials, please include a cover letter that addresses your area of expertise and your qualifications.
