Major League Baseball (MLB) Schedule Release Stats You NEED To Know 📸 53% of teams (16 out of 30) opted for no schedule release video. 🤝 3 teams – the New York Mets, Seattle Mariners, and San Diego Padres – had a sponsored schedule release. That’s 79% less than NHL teams (3-of-30 vs 15-of-32). 📹 67% of those sponsorships (2 out of 3) included video integration. Petco had logo inclusion on the Padres' schedule graphic. 🍩 0 sponsors were tagged in schedule release content. 🟣 100% of sponsored schedule release videos included McDonald's Grimace. 🏆 Yes, there weren’t many schedule release videos, but even compared to last season, the Mets and Mariners smashed it in 2024. The secret sauce? Both teams leaned into viral moments from this season. The Mets' schedule release was sponsored by McDonald’s. A fitting partnership, given how the team has turned around its season after Grimace threw out the first pitch on June 12th. Using a Mario-Kart style concept, Grimace appeared at the starting line of the race. A physical McDonald’s restaurant appeared on the course as well as a branded tunnel with their iconic golden arches, naturally showing up during each lap. Meanwhile, out west, the Mariners capitalized on the popularity of their Hotdogs From Heaven activation by making it the theme of their schedule release, rightfully carrying over the sponsor, Hempler Foods Group LLC. When the M’s shared the dates for their series against the Mets, a Grimace doll was holding the hotdog representing the team. Honorable Mentions: LOVED the Chicago Cubs “Someday is Now” announcement video for their Tokyo series matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers. It’s been 25 years since they faced the Mets to start the 2000 season [the Mets were everywhere yesterday]. Wild that I remember watching that game at school with my fifth-grade class. The Texas Rangers Baseball Club utilized the DVD screensaver concept famously used by Coinbase in the 2022 Super Bowl, with each bounce triggering a new matchup reveal. #sportsmarketing #sportsbusiness #sponsorship

The bottom line, is that as viewing habits continue to shift towards digital platforms and devices, sports entities with built in fan bases and star athletes can exploit DTC streaming: 👉 A DTC approach allows for direct relationship with fans.
