Reed Smith's intranet portal was selected by legal industry peers at the conference, who voted on award winners from a field that was narrowed to four finalists from more than 100 submissions. The system was hailed for its innovative integration of Recommind and WestKM along with a myriad of unique features and clean, simple interface.

The Reed Smith project team was led by Tom Baldwin, Reed Smith's Chief Knowledge Officer, and Lisa Gianakos, Reed Smith's Director of Knowledge Management. The portal leverages OneView Connect software to integrate internal and external information sources, and also provide targeted content to lawyers and staff. The targeted content requirements were based in part upon user personas created by Janders Dean, another technology vendor. The resulting portal is an intuitive way for users to find critical business information and collaborate with each other, connecting more than 3,200 people in 26 different countries.

Reed Smith of won for its SharePoint ouRSpace system, a firm portal that serves as a multi-faceted central communications and data center. Among the many features it delivered, it was the first Sharepoint intranet to fully integrate Recommind and WestKM into an easy to use, single interface.

The winner demonstrated a striking piece of lateral thinking by shifting away from standard e-newsletters to the world of Blogging. From an original readership of 10,000, the winner's blogged content has surpassed 1,000,000 hits and averages nearly 10,000 hits per day and consistently appears on the first 5 hits for relevant search terms in Google and Yahoo. This project really was a classic example of IT and Marketing working together. Our Chief Marketing Officer, Vickie Spang, took this idea and ran with it. Without the collaborative efforts of her group and mine, this project would have never been the success it is. My post on this idea months ago kicked started our efforts, but our Marketing group was instrumental in the adoption of blogs here at the firm. Show less
