Honestly this has been a learning journey for us at Brus. When we started building the platform last spring, we saw the opportunity for AI to automate some of the work of revenue leaders. AI was so shiny and magical and we wanted to aim high... We played around with the idea that AI could recommend next steps on deals or assess buying intent in deals or infer insight about accounts. But reality is that AI was not very good at it at all (DM if you want to talk about why) and revenue leaders are trained to excel at those very jobs. A CRO at one of our clients kindly explained: "I trained my revenue leaders for years to infer and make decisions about accounts and they know exactly what I want and how we want to do it in our organization." Today, Brus' AI is focused on making it easy for revenue leaders to do all the things they excel at -- providing the insight leaders need to recommend the next best step or assess buying intent or infer insight about accounts. It is super rewarding to see how our clients are improving outcomes in their revenue teams.

This baby step in the right direction is a giant leap ahead. Absurdities abound in healthcare policy. The last decade, especially, has been extremely destructive. Banning the expansion of physician-owned has been about the most egregious. Legislators are beginning to listen. Physician-owned hospitals are the solution, not the problem. They are led by some of the most innovative doctors on the planet. Even if the ban is lifted only in rural areas, physician-owned hospitals will blaze the future trail for healthcare. They have already used minimally invasive technologies to cut costs and improve quality despite all the constraints inflicted on them. The part that worries me about the recent Flo raise isn't about the money.. It's not the "first FemTech unicorn" with two male founders (although that's beyond aggravating). It's not the ease with which they've closed multiple rounds over the years while I've seen other women building in this space struggle to get an audience with investors. It's the data they are collecting that scares me. Data related to fertility and menstrual cycles. Data that users were told would not be shared with third party affiliates, yet Flo is part of a current Canadian class action lawsuit for sharing data of millions of users with Facebook and Google. They have been the subject of 2 FTC investigations, both settled without admitting wrongdoing. In the United States, in light of the Roe v. Wade overturn, access to women's health information has become increasingly consequential. Access to reproductive care and the ownership of that information now has legal and financial implications for menstruating individuals. I have two (young) daughters and two sons. If you had asked me years ago if I thought they would be in the reproductive care landscape they are currently sitting on the edge of, I would have laughed. I didn't think it was possible, and yet here we are. When my daughters start tracking cycles, or if my sons are in relationships with women, would I want that information to end up compromising their access to care? No. Not when we haven't yet established how far into a provider's office the Supreme Court thinks it's allowed to go. Two men. Two men who will never sit in a providers office and be asked "when was your last period" and not know if that date may one day end up in court. Two men from Belarus, a country that has had legal abortion since 1955 and has one of the most liberal abortion laws in all of Europe. Two men who "saw a gap in an underserved market" and told users one thing while did another with their data- until there was an investigation. I'm sharing the link to their current privacy policy in the comments. The comparison that always comes up, to relate privacy concerns of women to men, is around erectile dysfunction. That doesn't begin to compare when one carries potential penalties, fines, and legal implications for one, while the other may be embarrassing while not having legal or personal safety ramifications. It's the data that scares me- for this generation and those we are raising. Support female founders in the FemTech space. Support those that understand the lived experience and are building tailored and comprehensive solutions. Help more women build in this space by using their products, sharing their products, and supporting their growth. I work in computer systems, software and cloud infrastructure .. and let me just say that I often won't outsource work because 3rd party vendors are very often trying to milk your cow, and keep the milk. I often see 'vendors' who want to drag out billable.. this is the first reason I refuse hourly contracts of any kind. I also see people who care more about the billable than the quality, or they are under qualified and are using your product development as a learning path.. I am not against this, but this effects the quality of the product (internally) and the timeliness, which should be reflected in the pricing.. .. which leads me to my last rant - I don't want sub-par work. I can do better work, faster, myself (free) .. so why would I outsource something to someone who doesn't care about the product, have the experience OR is going to try and charge me an arm and a leg for something they don't have a passion for to begin with. More than building products, I'm building a team of passionate experts who value quality, and our products will reflect that. I average 3,000 to 15,000 lines of code a week.. roughly 600-3,000 lines of code a day, and some of my best code is only 20 lines long - and to me, is like poetry. Yes, I am reinventing the wheel, because the wheel is going flat and won't sustain, and was built on top of poor designs that weren't built for today's market. I cannot invest in people or companies who don't share the vision, and I care too much about quality to compromise it for a quick cash-grab. Be careful what you measure. If you measure “outcomes,” don’t be surprised that some folks will get those outcomes at the expense of communities, people, and even companies along the way, as they prioritize “the goal” over any values or relationships. Measure impact. The impact on the business. The impact on those who work with that person. The impact on those around them. People aren’t always able to control outcomes. But they can have impact. Good or bad. Measure impact.
