Regardless of the end result, the Department of Justice’s antitrust trial against Google’s ad tech business will have a dramatic impact on the industry. Many argue, should Google be forced to spin off its ad tech business, it will create challenges for publishers, who will likely be forced to spend more in the short term. But in the long term, this could actually be largely beneficial, with a healthier and more competitive market to look forward to. Only time will tell. #Antitrust #DigitalAdvertising #AdTech

Wrote a short post on history repeating itself with the explosion of growth in Retail Media. With marketing dollars continuing to shift to performance focused spend, Retail Media sits at an intersection that promises tremendous growth whichever turn you take. Pent up demand for high ROI channels of marketing, privacy friendly advertising, and high ROI for all participating parties. Opportunities abound. And another takeaway - Amazon does it again by showing the world that not only can it redefine how humans shop and lead the world on cloud infrastructure - but it can rebuild a better version of the commercial lifeblood of the internet by inventing ads that work. Amazon Ads was the first scaled version of Retail Media and it's now crossed $50B in revenue over the past 12 months. Incredible. Let me know your thoughts. #commerceisthefuture #retailmedia

Sharing some news today: Sunflower Fund I is officially fully deployed and we will not move forward with a Fund II. 🌻 The story... For those who don't know, I work with founders and funds on storytelling, messaging and design for their investor pitch decks. And I absolutely love it. 3 years ago I decided to launch a venture fund after never having before angel invested. Disagreed with the others that I couldn't raise without a track record because I could point to, at the time, the 150+ companies I had worked directly with to help them successfully fundraise. Being in the spot of working with companies before they went out to formally fundraise was a special spot to be in...especially as an aspiring investor. So I raised a small fund from epic LPs - mostly GPs at other funds and founders/operators because they totally got the strategy of Sunflower Fund: an actually helpful VC who sees companies before most and will do the dirty deck work! It's been an absolute blast, but in deep reflecting, I am passionate about working directly with founders and I don't feel the fire under my butt when it comes to manage and operate an additional fund...solo. With that said, I am open to meeting exceptional investor/operators for a potential Fund II one day. For now, I'll continue to support our portfolio in all things storytelling and design, and continue to work with founders and funds directly. Our 20 company portfolio is in full bloom. 🌻 Track record 250+ companies/funds strong. Tough decision as folks expect you to continue with a lifetime of Funds, but a good reminder that you can always write your own story.

It’s cool to be on the inaugural Variety 10. They’re recognizing 10 CMOs that they feel are “the most important and consequential leaders of our time.” And I love this list of marketers. I know and admire their work, and I appreciate the thinking behind why Variety chose these brand leaders. All of them are truly innovative and see the world differently. They solve problems in fresh, unexpected, or unconventional ways. They are thoughtful in how their brand transcends the product or service, and find inspiring ways to give back and be a force for good. The list is a mix of highly established brands that are reinventing themselves and finding ways to be relevant and relatable to young and mature audiences, and then there are pioneers and digital natives that are exploring and bringing us new experiences and choices — inspiring us all to live differently, and live better. And many like the NFL are focussed on not just growing their audience, but driving a brand resurgence by making themselves more accessible, relatable and inclusive — uniting people and building strong ties with communities. And most of all, they’re leaders who are not afraid to take risks, showing the power of brave marketing…and demonstrating how building a brand builds businesses. So, a huge congrats to the other 9. I’m pumped to be in the same conversation with you. And a huge thanks to my stellar team at the National Football League (NFL) and our partners at 72andSunny.
