That's according to Canva's latest installment of their annual Visual Economy Report. Social media has had an outsized impact on the way we consume and share information, and the penchant for visually-appealing communication has absolutely infiltrated the workplace. Some other interesting findings, from this one-of-a-kind report (that we had A TON of fun creating and reimagining for 2024): 📈 77% say visual communication tools have increased business performance. From accelerating content creation and team collaboration to stronger audience engagement, visual-first communication helps organizations save time and money. 🤖 82% of leaders are exploring AI-powered tools as options to accelerate their content production needs and reduce costs. 🎨 68% are now training those not in design roles to meet a certain threshold of design competency. PRWeek's great 2024 Business Report highlights the key challenge facing our industry. Communications is more important than ever. Comms and policy leaders are being asked to play far larger roles as business partners supporting ever more stakeholders. So why did the industry suffer so much in 2023 after many years of growth? As an sector, we are not adapting fast enough to the needs. Organizations are desperate for help but also under tremendous financial strain. They now need both senior level counsel and advisory support as well as deep domain expertise to actually produce. By and large, our industry is still split by this chasm - between strategic and tactical. Clients cannot afford to separate these, either in time or money. 𝐁𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞, 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 Don’t wait until a bad bill or crisis hits. Building relationships with employees and lawmakers early, so you’re ready to act when it matters most. 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐋𝐚𝐰𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬’ 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞 When you talk to lawmakers, keep things simple and focus on their priorities. Share real stories and local data to show your impact, and skip the industry jargon. 𝐀𝐜𝐭 𝐅𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐞 If you jump into a political moment, make sure it’s the right fit for your brand. Timing is important, but so is staying true to who you are.
