This past April, project officials announced the energization of Salt River Project’s largest battery project. Under a partnership with Salt River Project (SRP) and NextEra Energy Resources, the Sonoran Solar Energy Center consists of the ability to generate 1 Gigawatt-hour of battery energy storage, along with entailing a 260-megawatt (MW) solar facility. The Sonoran Solar Energy Center is one of numerous renewable energy hybrid projects supporting Google data center campuses located across Arizona. These SRP and NextEra projects include the recently completed Storey Energy Center and the under-development Babbitt Ranch Energy Center. The following projects overall assist Google’s goals to achieve net-zero emissions and value chain by 2030, operate under 24/7 carbon-free energy in their data centers and campus offices and adopt additional future energy needs for Google. The completion of the Sonoran Solar Energy Center further supports SRP’s goal to double the amount of electric power capacity in their power system within 10 years, highlighted in SRP’s Integrated System Plan.
