Playa del Rey and other Beach Cities Facing Crime Wave LAPD announced the arrest of the suspects in the recent burglary from motor vehicle (BMFV) and theft from motor vehicle (TFMV) and vandalism plaguing Playa del Rey and Westchester. Apparently, the suspects who were cruising our quiet streets during late night and early morning hours are juveniles who live in the area of Westchester High School. They were likely released to their parent/guardian. It occurred to me that we are facing different types of criminals simultaneously; 1) Unsupervised juvenile suspects committing everything from vandalism, theft and burglary from motor vehicles to retail theft. 2) Career offenders on active parole and probation are released into the community with little to no supervision. These are career criminals who know Los Angeles County & City politicians have adopted a soft on crime policy and now operate with impunity. This is a result of Props 47 & 57, AB 109, bail reform and the LADA’s policies. 3) Many of the vehicles used in retail theft, burglary and vandalism incidents are either stolen vehicles or ghost vehicles. A ghost vehicle is a car with paper license plate that expired years ago or have paper plates with only the dealers name…no number. So, why aren’t these vehicles being stopped by police? 4) Unfortunately, AB 2773 , which became law in January 2024, is intended to limit what are called “pretext stops” — when a police officer pulls a motorist over for a minor infraction, like a broken taillight — to be able to then search the vehicle for illegal items like [guns] drugs. 5) Much of the crime we see in Los Angeles from home burglaries, retail theft, and homicides in South LA that doesn’t always make the news, can be attributed to Los Angeles gangs involved in the narcotics trade. Almost every politician put in office in our city and county are directly responsible for the increase in crimes you are witnessing in our community, on busses and trains. 6) Random assaults by homeless population. As witnessed recently in Venice, Sherman Oaks and other parts of Mayor Bass’ city, random attacks by mentally ill unhoused is a threat to residents despite all the "Inside Safe" photo Ops of recent. 7) Homeless and drug users stealing copper tubing from construction sites throughout Los Angeles County. 8) And, as if all that wasn’t bad enough, there are professional criminal crews like those who recently stole $30 million dollars from a Garda World facility in the San Fernando Valley.
