#MarchforMoms program in June, in Philly will continue to emphasize how community based partners are poised with HOW to improve outcomes for childbearing families without decades of policy debate and state/federal funding. In our third year of lifting up CBOs, these organizations are the heart of the community, providing critical work on slim margins and small staff. These organizations have the trust of the community. These organizations bring cultural congruency to facilitate health of families that often struggle with health literacy and trust with instutionalized care. These organizations have much to share about their work, their needs, and how YOU can help. I challenge every healthcare provider that has not heard the stories of community-based work to set biases aside and listen. NYS CHHAs: Help Us Save Home Health! Make sure the final NYS Budget includes funds for CHHA! Ask the Legislature to designate $35 million funding directed to CHHAs ($30M) and hospices ($5M). The Assembly bill already identified $30M for CHHAs, and the Senate bill provided a special rate increase for hospices. Both houses need to come together on these funding increases, which need to be equitable with other sectors (i.e. hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living, hospice) receiving increases! The approved $237B NYS budget has drawn widespread reaction from business leaders and nonprofits across the state. We're happy to share that the WCA's advocacy influenced significant outcomes: 🏥 Healthcare Victory: We successfully prevented over $1 billion in Medicaid cuts and secured $800 million for hospitals and nursing homes 🔍 COVID Response: While we ensured the sunset of Covid sick pay, disappointingly, scope of practice modifications were excluded. 🏘️ Housing Solutions: In a win for affordable housing, NYC developers gained valuable tax incentives; however, statewide provisions fell short. 🌍 Climate Resilience: Expanded funding for climate resiliency programs, demonstrating our efforts in educating local governments have paid off. These achievements wouldn't have been possible without the dedication and support of our members and partners. NEW YORK STATE ENACTS PAID LEAVE FOR PRENATAL APPOINTMENTS! New York State is the first state in the nation to require employers to provide up to 20 hours of paid leave specifically for employees to attend prenatal appointments or obtain health care services during or related to their pregnancy. This includes physical examinations, medical procedures, monitoring and testing, consultations, etc. Prenatal leave time does not impact or reduce other paid sick time available to an employee under the New York Paid Sick Leave Law. Building New Jersey's first government-run online cannabis technical assistance program from the ground up (and through Salesforce 😅 ) takes WORK and a LOT of people. The content we're organizing and finalizing for the Department of State is coming together and I can't wait to reveal more. Be sure to follow The New Jersey Cannabis Training Academy and keep it on your radar. The level of information, knowledge and experience we're bringing to the table with the help of our 25 instructors is DEEP. I'm excited for current and prospective cannabis entrepreneurs to really understand the cannabis licensing application process and the industry at large, and I hope our free online program saves people some tears and headaches as they think about starting their journey in securing a license and opening their doors for business (or determine a better pathway to enter the industry if owning a license is not in their cards!). Even more, I know operators who are already online could leverage the NJ CTA for their employees as a form of continuing education. This was hammered home by many conditional and annual license holders during my experience at MJ Unpacked in Atlantic City. Truly, I hope business owners let their staff know about the NJ CTA once we launch so their staff can understand the deeper intricacies of acquiring, and keeping, a license, and why things like laws, SOPs, regulations and compliance are critical for staying open for business. Personally, I think it will also bring more empathy to the table from a staff perspective. When I was a budtender in Philadelphia, a lot of my colleagues didn't understand why we operated our dispensary the way we did; they didn't know the laws, or regulations or compliances that license holders had to adhere to. We needed something like the NJ CTA to exist in Pennsylvania. But it didn't. Hoping other states model what we're building to help the industry at large. Stay tuned. Bicycle Health is launching a virtual opioid use disorder treatment program for teens - the first program of its kind in the country. "This will be the first time Bicycle is treating teens. The company decided to stand the offering up after hearing directly from one of its payer partners, whose name was not disclosed, that there is a big need among its network of providers to have a partner to refer teens with OUD for care. "'From the payer side, the concern was all around not having any access to care whatsoever,” Brian Clear, M.D., Bicycle's chief medical officer, told Fierce Healthcare."
