I'll be speaking at GOTO Chicago on performance techniques in Jepsen. It's gonna be a weird collage of parallelism, pure functions, immutable data structures, and deforestation with low-level techniques like bitsets, avoiding sharing between threads, packing structures into mutable arrays, dynamic compilation of primitive boxes, and macro iteration magic. Interesting discussion and viewpoints in a tiny thread and a fine example of "We will do it with the APIs"... Browser "natively" ignores/shuns/blocks a subset of published, available APIs. A LOUD group says that is not it's role and this is another symptomatic fail of disappointing browser, 2nd Loud group says those API results are intrusive and annoying based on context. How clever of browser! 3rd group (most of us) admits I had NO IDEA that could even happen! The move deeper and broader you and your business go into API world, the bigger the blackbox full of magic and chaos. APIs are everywhere and do everything....but should they? I'm having enlightening convos with folks who deliver infra for others to run. It sounds like "runbooks/wiki docs" are a real problem from a handoff/support perspective. We have an elegant solution, when you deliver runbooks as "click to play/pre-configured" Notebooks, and a command fails, the user gets an `escalation button` that shares a link to the output/metadata into the shared Slack room. It's ideal for bridging the gap when there's a support relationship. 🤓 This sounds like a case study in the making.. anyone else struggling with this?

The latest advances in artificial intelligence (particularly large language models) continue to reverberate. Even for an “old school” AI person like myself (who cut his teeth with Prolog) it is clear that there has been a step change in our ability to create computer systems that can interact with humans using natural language. GPT-4 et al are exhibiting early signs of “common sense” and have encoded useful conceptual representations of the world. The debate rages on as to whether this is “intelligence”, but to an engineer like me, it sure seems useful! #LLM #AI #Intelligence #Programming https://lnkd.in/ebAgNapK
