In Summer 2013, Campus Compact, in collaboration with Iowa Campus Compact, brought together advanced practitioners for an institute focused on professional and personal development in Des Moines. Out of that experience, a group of practitioner-scholars committed to developing a new resource to help guide professional development, career advancement, and unit guidance in the civic and community engagement field. Through a collective process, they developed a framework of competencies for community engagement professionals. The four areas, as outlined in the publication, include Organizational Manager, Institutional Strategic Leader, Field Contributor, and Community Innovator.
The audience of this book is two-fold. Primarily, we are concerned with supporting professional individuals in the field of civic and community engagement. We are focused on building capacity for the comprehensive development of individuals, units and institutions. Thus, we are secondly interested in supporting administrators who hire, train and provide support to these professionals.
The purpose of the book is to support strategic professional development and should be used to help community engagement professionals to reflect on their own practice and growth. This reflective practice should be connected to wider discussions of how campuses can continue to institutionalize civic and community engagement and the book provides concrete ways for community engagement professionals to link personal vocation to systemic change.Other authorsSee publication
