How do you become a cost accountant?
1) Take the basic and intermediate accounting classes in college, then take a Cost Accounting course. There are online schools that offer these classes too. Completing a university degree with specialty in accounting or finance and including these courses will definitely help. 2) Seek an internship in an accounting department in the area of cost accounting, budgeting, or financial planning and analysis (FP&A). Express interest in applying the concepts you learned in school about cost allocations, management reporting, managing and understanding standard cost accounting, and other cost accounting skills. 3) Become a Certified Management Accountant (CMA): this step will involve additional study and exams.
