Recently, I appeared on the Big Pixel Biz/Dev Podcast and we discussed entrepreneurial motivation. While there is no silver-bullet in starting your own company, many reach out to me for guidance simply due to the fact that they are forced into entrepreneurship (read: lay-off) and think they want to make the quantum leap to sole proprietorship. Often, I am asked by other budding entrepreneurs “how did you make the leap?” and asked for tips. Make no mistake, I work. I work very hard at what I do and despite the fact that I can probably take my foot off the pedal a bit now, I don’t. I know that for me to maintain this lifestyle for the rest of my working life, it requires a tremendous level of discipline. I plan for success then I make a commitment just as I have for the past 20+ years.. Is the value of integrity at risk? Organizations must enhance their integrity approach to preserve stakeholder trust. Leadership's pivotal role in fostering a culture of trust is paramount. When leaders exemplify integrity, it permeates the organization, fostering transparency and accountability as the norm. Upholding integrity within the organizational culture is crucial to nurture an environment where every team member feels valued and empowered. The inclusion of whistleblowers reinforces trust and accountability, making integrity the cornerstone of daily operations. The gap between rhetoric and action persists, as highlighted in the EY Global Integrity Report 2022. The discrepancy between what leaders preach about corporate integrity and the actual implementation remains wide. Board executives, particularly, must address misconduct and not tolerate unethical behaviors, even among high-ranking employees. A top-down, "all talk, no walk" mentality jeopardizes the organization's reputation and financial standing, with corporate fraud alone costing companies 1.6% of equity value annually, totaling US$830 billion in 2021. In these challenging times, prioritizing integrity is paramount for organizations. By adopting an agile, human-centered integrity approach, implementing robust programs, and instilling a strong culture of commitment to integrity, organizations can navigate changing regulations and societal expectations. What's in your leadership Library? Not your kindle or your nook or on your podcast line up. What printed books are in your possession that help you with leadership? Tomorrow I start leading an annual LeaderShip Cohort for terrific ongoing client partner Oregon Resource Association. In fact, this is the 5th annual Cohort ~ and here are 6 observational thoughts. 1. When you focus on the people in the room, not those who aren't, everyone has a better experience. The size of audience has little to do with possible action and impact. Those present at the present 🎁 and deserve full focus. 2. Experimenting with format variables is highly likely and helpful - i.e. number of sessions, format, length, space. We started with 3 sessions, then 3 again, then 4, then 6 - and this year it's 5. Partially to celebrate the 5th year of the series. The registered students will tell you what's working vocally and behaviorally. 3. Be willing to add a group and perhaps a 2nd session. We added a 2nd cohort group [max 30 per group] the very first year due to enthusiastic response! Same day, 2 different times, everybody in. That may have also boosted further registration. 4. Have a focused area of growth and be sure to build sessions ecosystemically. A theme is another way of stating this: what's the purpose of the gathering for growth? Having a theme jump starts the connection within the group, since the purpose is aligned from the start. Ours is LeaderShip, and this year I've chosen 5 books to utilize for the 5 classes. 5. Enjoy the organic nature of adjustment as you progress. In every class there are revelations! Respond to those and use them to enhance the future classes. Reference them so that people know they're being heard and their contribution is fuel for the group. If you teach online and in person series, what lessons and observations have you found lightbulby? Generic self-development coaching is hardly comparable to Emotional Intelligence executive coaching for leadership or physician burnout. For executive coaching services procured by organizations like Loudoun County, the payee (coaching firm) typically proposes pricing structures and rates, which the contracting organization negotiates and agrees upon. Specifically, the RFP requires the coaching firm to provide the cost to administer 360 leadership assessments for around 100 leaders. Cost for group assessment interpretation sessions for groups of up to 20 leaders Hourly rate for individual coaching services. The organization will be billed for any other expenses. This indicates that while the coaching firm proposes pricing, the contracting organization has the final say in determining reasonable rates for the required services. The results do not explicitly differentiate between life coaching for personal development and executive/leadership coaching. However, it is sensible to expect pricing structures to differ based on the coaching objectives, target audience, and specific services provided. Organizations would likely negotiate appropriate rates commensurate with the value and complexity of the coaching engagement. In summary, while the payee (coaching firm) can propose pricing, the contracting organization ultimately determines reasonable rates for the coaching services based on their requirements and budget constraints. In contrast, generic coaching for personal development is unlikely to produce the level of income that is typical for niche coaching for leadership, burnout or disruptive behavior.
