Software developers, I genuinely enjoy helping you finding new, better opportunities... But there're somethings that would be helpful for you to know when job searching. It's no fault of your own as we probably don't tell you enough 🙂 1) If you're on a salary of £40k, it's a little unrealistic to expect the next role to be at £60k. It can (and does) happen, but it's rare. 2) A salary increase of 10% of your salary is good. 20%+ would be exceptional. 3) When preparing, go back to basics. You should be able to communicate, what you do, why you do it and general industry terms. 4) The single most important soft skill (from what I've seen) to display is the desire to continuously learn. 5) When it's your turn to ask questions in the interview, make sure you have two or three well constructed ones. Saying you have no questions is actually detrimental. 6) In this current market, the more willing you are to attend an office irregularly, the more opportunities you'll have available to you. 6) When you get an offer, it's completely normal to have second thoughts. Taking a new challenge can and should be a little scary. 7) If you're working for a consultancy, chances are your salary may be inflated compared to the market averages of working for a private software company. It can make things difficult when searching. A good recruiter is here to work with and for you, it's a team effort. Any advice a good recruiter shares with you is to better your chances at finding the right role. And you know what they say, the best time to start looking is when you 𝒅𝒐𝒏'𝒕 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅 a role. I've hired hundreds of devs in my career - I still sit on dev interviews today. The easiest way to bag that £100K+ job is to improve your "coachability". Coachability means being able to "take it". Take the feedback from your team, you might think your code is the best, but it probably isn't, you might think you nailed what the customer wants, but you probably didn't. See great devs work with everyone, they iterate ideas, they stay approachable, they consider new ways, they listen....they are coachable. When you are coachable, people work with you more, you work on bigger projects, you do better stuff, and you bag that £100K+ job. #developer #coding #startups #dev #fullstack

Does LinkedIn provide real value? I debate removing it as a part of my personal social media ban. I find social media to be incredibly unhealthy and full of bad information. LinkedIn was different for a minute but it's so unprofessional now, I honestly question if it's worth the job search functionality. Given the number of fraudulent job oppos I am really not sure keeping it is justified. Let me know your thoughts below. Why do YOU used LinkedIn.

Developers, always prioritize companies who choose two-way interviews. Interviews should feel like a conversation, not an interrogation. And your opportunity to ask questions shouldn’t be limited to the last 5-10 minutes. So, next time you head into an interview, make sure you uncover: 🗣️ What the team’s current priorities are and how they anticipate you’ll contribute to their short- and long-term goals. 🗣️ What challenges the team are currently facing, and how they’re approaching them. 🗣️ Which development practices the team currently follow, how collaborative they are, and how they approach short- and long-term projects. 🗣️ How often the team releases new features, what their pace of development is, and how quickly you’ll see your work in production. 🗣️ How the team handles bugs and production incidents (which gives you a great insight into their culture). Don’t be afraid to integrate questions into your answers to initiate conversation with the interviewer.
