While I sadly will be missing Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity this year as I wait for the arrival of our second child (she’s due any day now!) I’m excited to share several big updates my team has been cooking up over the past few months at Pinterest. Today, we’re announcing: 📌 Pinterest Ad Labs: a new program for select brands to test early versions of Gen AI and creative tools for advertisers. One of the most exciting updates is collages for advertisers, where brands can remix and promote their visual assets as engaging shoppable content. 📌 Pinterest Performance+: Currently in closed beta, we’re testing our latest AI and automation features to help increase ad performance, while making it easier and quicker for marketers to create campaigns. 📌 Brand safety measurement from IAS & DoubleVerify: Both measurement providers confirmed what we already knew to be true – Pinterest is brand safe by default, with more than 99% of measured ad impressions deemed safe by both providers. AdExchanger: Why is everyone so obsessed with sell-side curation all of a sudden? "John Gentry: One big reason is because of how addressability and identity are changing. The closer you are to the publisher, the easier it is to match your data, because there are fewer hops. You don’t need to go from the publisher to the SSP to the DSP to the DMP to try and resolve who a user might be. In short, there’s better fidelity. The other thing we hear from buyers is the fact that curation can be DSP-agnostic. Buyers can take the same deal ID they use across our supply and use it with multiple different DSPs. A lot of buyers work with more than one DSP, so they like the ability to transport that deal ID across the landscape." This. Right. Here.

There's a lot of wisdom in Tim Lynn's recent interview on The Hard Part with Evan McCann, but one bit (https://lnkd.in/g-r2nZ5H) particularly resonated with me as he explained what Startup TNT is doing: "It's sort of this cycle back into building the community, which then builds the companies, which then pay taxes, which then feeds the communities. That cycle is really where it becomes useful," he said. "It's not just a simple customer relationship. It's an entire ecosystem play. So that's tricky." This feels similar to what we're doing at Taproot Publishing Inc. When you buy a membership or an ad, or when you sponsor a roundup or the new Taproot Edmonton Calendar, you get something in return, but you're also contributing to a more informed and connected Edmonton region. It's an entire ecosystem play, as Tim puts it. The Taproot Edmonton team's work helps the whole community work better. Paying attention instead of just extracting it is not the easiest path.
