⁉ Why do people like working in communications/PR? 👇 This movie quote always comes to mind: "For me, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 is the juice." I think most communicators would answer in the same way. Days are often unpredictable. You have to move fast most of the time - often with less information than you need. It's good to embrace the "action" of the job, because that's what keeps the work exciting. ✋🔥But that action can also be a recipe for burnout. Understanding when to dial things down and focus on self-care, team development and long-term planning is critical. Doing both is possible, but requires self-awareness and intention. #communications #pr #publicrelaitons

Erin here, back again with a Real Chemistry readout of the health policy discussion few are talking about from last night’s VP debate with Leslie Isenegger, MPP.   Over an hour into the debate, Senator JD Vance and Governor Tim Walz were asked about the cost of healthcare. The back and forth mostly focused on who has done more to strengthen the Affordable Care Act (Vance seemingly countering efforts by the Trump administration to weaken the law). But Vance echoed Trump’s vow to repeal the ACA and touted pre-ACA high risk pools, which led to a sharp rebuke from Walz.     On drug pricing, it’s no surprise that Gov. Walz highlighted the Medicare Drug Price Negotiation Program as key to VP Harris’s efforts to bring down costs. Vance claimed the average increase in drug prices under the Trump administration was 1.5% compared to a 7% increase under the Biden administration.     Vance appeared to be citing a HHS report tracking drug prices from 2017-2023. He may have conflated a 7% average price increase on single source drugs from 2022-2023, which was due to price increases on higher priced drugs, with a different statistic that showed 1.6% increase in the consumer price index from 2017-2018. Interestingly, neither candidate mentioned the $35 insulin cap despite both candidates taking credit for that measure.      This debate demonstrated that both candidates would plan to make drug prices a priority of their administrations, despite reports that Congressional Republicans are targeting Medicare price negotiation as a target for repeal in 2025.   https://lnkd.in/dHssXaPe

I am fascinated by intersections. It may be people from different chapters of my life who know each other in a third context, reading about something (a dragonfly, for example) then seeing it literally everywhere... My career experience in communications on complex topics and technology eventually led me to healthcare, then back to tech. Social media is fragmenting with greater velocity, making choosing the right places to both listen and get your message out ever more complex. This Wired piece is a good 4 min read on the ever changing social media landscape. When my daughter was 13 and itching to get on Facebook, I set us up with an account I monitored—only people I knew could be her friend, privacy locked down, training for her, my constant monitoring. I had it nailed. That summer she innocently opened an Instagram account and before I ever even knew what an Instagram was or that she was on it, she had more than 500 automatically suspicious followers. I hit the roof but learned quickly the pace of change in the social media world. And the value of educating and preparing kids to be social media savvy because we’ll never be able to keep up. We often think Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram are the be all end all of social media listening or presence, but take it all with a grain of salt and a shrewd analysis to inform strategy. Truth Social, Discord, and even Reddit are increasing fragmentation, echo chambers, and signal we must balance what we think is happening on social when we see a tweet or open our Facebook page. There’s more there than meets the eye.
