How can you manage multiple contracts for a large-scale event?
To secure favorable contract terms, a winner-takes-all approach won't suffice. Flexibility, fairness, transparency, and mutual respect are essential. In my early career, my boss felt that all suppliers should leave negotiations "bleeding," but I disagreed and advocated for a balanced, respectful approach. Later when she needed a supplier concession, and didn't get it, I successfully obtained it by relying on my supplier relationship. This convinced her to entrust supplier negotiations to me and I reiterated that this was proof that "you get more with honey than vinegar" negotiation tactic.

How can you manage multiple contracts for a large-scale event?
In my experience, the best negotiations I had in contracting were with my procurement partner. We had specific roles that we defined from the start. I was the subject matter expert and they were the legal and contracting expert. We presented a united front to the suppliers so they couldn't play us against ourselves and we leveraged the "good cop, bad cop" negotiation tactic effectively. The one binding understanding we both had from the start was we were 100% committed to doing what's best for our company. That was our guiding light and primary decision factor when we had to make concessions to complete negotiations.

A personal brand says a lot about who you & and how you conduct business. It reflects your cherished beliefs and values. It demonstrates your ethics to colleagues, employees, business partners & customers. In Your Personal Brand: Your Power Tool to Build Career Integrity, Kevin Iwamoto, GLP, GTP, offers valuable guidance on creating and maintaining a personal brand throughout your career. Iwamoto has an uplifting, positive message about living (not just talking about) your brand. To demonstrate how a good brand pays a multitude of dividends, he shares his brand-building experiences over the course of his 25-year career as an executive in the global business travel and meeting industry. Love and live life unconditionally and without regret. Everything I do reflects that statement. It helps me maintain my brand integrity on both a personal and professional level." In this book, Iwamoto offers both strategic wisdom and practical tips for creating and nurturing a brand by: - Stepping out of your comfort zone & building a professional network - Mastering social media to communicate & maintain your brand - Achieving new career milestones and fulfilling dreams with continuing education - Paying back the blessings you’ve received - Winning gracefully ... and with your ethics intact - Repairing damage to your brand - Leading with service as your highest goal - Helping others through mentorship ... a rewarding experience for both the mentor and mentee Your Personal Brand: Your Power Tool to Build Career Integrity is your blueprint for achieving your best in your professional life.

Introducing the BizBash 1,000, the people with the biggest impact on meetings and events across the United States. Last year, it was difficult to keep ourselves to just 500 people in our first edition of the list. So we decided to double the amount of people to celebrate. These individuals plan everything from galas for national art museums to massive trade shows, pop culture conventions, and festivals. They also produce and design Instagram-worthy events for big brands, live music productions, and sporting events, as well as multi-million-dollar weddings. Some of them offer innovative (and mouthwatering) food and beverage ideas, while others provide education programs and strategy tips that benefit everyone in the industry. It was our mission to celebrate the best of the best in a diverse and growing industry, while offering a compilation of people to connect with for ideas, inspiration, or guidance for your future events.

That's why we're glad to have had help in putting this list together. In addition to the editors of the Northstar Meetings Group brainstorming candidates, we gather input from…

But recent goings-on have made the task particularly difficult this year. From extreme weather, to the #MeToo movement, to third-party commission restructuring, it's been a busy 12 months. That's why we're glad to have had help in putting this list together. In addition to the editors of the Northstar Meetings Group brainstorming candidates, we gather input from select industry luminaries, got opinions from last year's honorees and polled our readers to let anyone from the industry at large be part of the process.
This list is all about identifying key influencers, and we would like to thank everyone who influenced us during the creation of this list. Lastly, we would like to congratulate everyone who made the list this year. - Successful Meetings -
