How do you prioritize target keywords using metrics?
When compiling research on target keywords, it can also be extremely useful to add an additional column: “Rank”. The "Rank" column will show those pages on your site that are already ranking for a given keyword. If you’re already ranking for a relevant term, it can be more efficient to pursue increasing your rank for that particular keyword, rather than trying to rank for something that you have no traction on.

Remember: "conversion" can meet a lot more than "product download" or "sales demo request." For example, you can't expect a piece of top-funnel content to convert a sale or even a product demo. Since top-funnel pages are often pages created for high-volume + low-competition queries, this means recalibrating your sense of conversion. For a top-funnel page, getting a reader to click on to the next mid-funnel page is a conversion. The goal is simply to keep buyer's moving forward in their journey.

How do you prioritize target keywords using metrics?
The mix of high volume and low competition is especially useful for startups that are building a content library from scratch, or re-activating a dormant blog site. It's an opportunity to build some authority, which will set the foundation for your entire organic search program. Once you've established authority in a given topic area, you're better equipped to try ranking for more competitive queries.

How do you prioritize target keywords using metrics?
Relevance looks different for every company. But here are 3 questions you can ask to gauge the relevance for any topic or keyword: 1. How much does your company want to be known for this topic or keyword? 2. How much would your CEO or board want you to rank for the term? 3. How clearly can you align your content with the term?
