Hey folks... who else is looking at the @SXSW #PanelPicker for 2025? I find reviewing the huge number of panels proposed both a little overwhelming (maybe I'm interested in too many topics?), intriguing, and more than a little inspiring. This year, I'm mostly looking at topics in Quantum (Computing), AI, XR, Ecosystem Development - and maybe a few other things. On Friday, NIST released updated guidance on AI, marking a significant step forward in the responsible and ethical development of AI technologies, meeting the Biden EOs 270-day deadline! The new guidelines aim to: - Promote Trustworthiness: Emphasize the importance of transparency, explainability, and accountability in AI systems to build public trust. - Enhance Safety and Security: Address potential risks and implement robust measures to protect against malicious use and vulnerabilities. - Support Innovation: Encourage advancements in AI while ensuring adherence to ethical standards and legal requirements. Foster Inclusivity: Advocate for diverse and inclusive practices in AI development to mitigate biases and ensure fairness. Key highlights include: - Risk Management Framework: A comprehensive approach to identifying, assessing, and managing risks associated with AI applications. - Technical Standards: Detailed recommendations on technical practices to enhance the reliability and performance of AI systems. - Collaborative Approach: A call for collaboration between industry, academia, and government to align efforts and share best practices, which has always been something I preach. Why is this important? As AI continues to permeate various sectors, from healthcare to finance, ensuring its responsible use is critical. The NIST guidelines serve as a beacon for organizations striving to innovate while upholding ethical standards. I've been thrilled to be in Washington, D.C., working on these issues firsthand.
