Walmart has removed degree requirements from most of our jobs, with over 75% of our U.S. roles now not requiring a degree.    We are collaborating with The Burning Glass Institute and other leading companies in the Skills-First Workforce Initiative, such as Bank of America, Blackstone, Johnson & Johnson, Microsoft, PepsiCo and Verizon. Our skills-first approach aims to open up career opportunities, meet employer talent needs and strengthen the economy. The framework will be open source and available to all U.S. employers by September 2025.    Our initial focus is on the nine most prevalent job roles across various sectors, which collectively account for over 11 million American jobs. By creating a shared language, or taxonomy, for assessing and valuing skills, we can promote the widespread adoption of this hiring approach.    Read more here:

There is absolutely NOTHING and I mean this in every way NOTHING a retail leader cannot do. The way we can adapt and act, have such an awareness to others and their feelings. Retail math!!!! Fiscal calendars and all. A communication skill set that is not only direct when needed but eloquent and warm too. It throws any and everything at you at all the most wildest times. I used to laugh “murpheys law” and retail go hand in hand. You’re a payroll specialist an HR generalist, a retail ops leader and most importantly you’re a person, with flaws and if your a true leader you aknowledge that you make Mistakes and teach others to do the same! So blessed that I get to support NSO and Framebridge retail teams because understanding the field and knowing what retail leaders do is the first step to bridging the gap in corporate and the field! 🫶

Despite an increase in remote work, retail activity remains robust, driven by rising tourism and consumer spending. Retailers are expanding in both suburban and urban areas, with new store openings and developments enhancing the city's commercial appeal. Key Highlights: Tourism and Consumer Spending: International travel and domestic tourism are fueling consumer spending, especially in residential neighborhoods like Jamaica Plain, Roxbury, and Mission Hill, where spending has surpassed pre-pandemic levels. Retail Developments: Major projects like Samuels & Associates Lyrik Back Bay and New England Development Allston Yards are set to open, bringing new retail, office, and residential spaces to the city. New Retailers: Brands like Google, Rivian, UNIQLO, Savage X Fenty and Loewe are opening new stores, reflecting Boston’s appeal to major retailers. Change puts stress on everyone, but retail leaders can keep initiatives on track by applying good change management practices that keep motivation high and anxiety in check. Be proactive in getting ahead of the change by being upfront and open about what’s happening but also understand how different people will react to the change—and how they’ll be affected by it. Here are 5 keys to change leadership that all retail leaders need to keep in mind as they lead others through change: ▶Communicate: Communication is critical for alleviating some of the stress of change and gaining commitment. When associates understand what’s going on and why, they can commit to fully supporting it and achieving the desired goals. ▶Adapt Your Approach: We all receive messages differently and react to change in different ways. As a result, DMs and store support leaders have to be able to adapt their communications to the needs of their recipients. ▶Empathize and Pause: Effective communication is about more than delivering your messages in one-on-ones and group meetings. It’s also about knowing when and how to empathize—and pause. Truly listening makes a huge difference. ▶Listen to Learn: Listening opens the door to possibilities and ideas you might never have uncovered otherwise. Proactively ask for input from store leaders or team members. ▶Build Autonomy: Change leadership is an opportunity to create more autonomy in the stores by strengthening the store management team. A DM’s goal should be to coach their store leaders to make decisions and carry forward the vision of the business. The most successful retail leaders are those who are able to flex between different leadership roles to meet the needs of the situation and their teams. Today we published our 2024 Belonging, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Annual Report, which shares some of the ways we’re helping associates feel seen, supported, and connected through a culture of belonging. Today, nearly 400 store, market, and regional People Partners across the Southwest BU spent time collaborating on our quarterly #InvestInTheBest program focused on strengthening talent management capabilities! Tied to SHRM’s Body of Applied Skills and Knowledge (BASK), it was tremendous to hear how Market People Partners Noe Cantu, T.C. Wilson, SHRM-CP, and Anthony Agnew are attracting and cultivating talent within their stores and markets!
