Don’t miss a talk by Debashis Chatterjee and Neha Singh from Intel Corporation, on “Compiler-assisted Kernel-based P4 Pipeline Offloading Using Intel IPU” at the 2024 P4 Workshop on October 3rd. Overview: The networking industry is at an inflection point with ever increasing network link capacities coupled with the proliferation of different types of programmable hardware ASICs. These set of circumstances call out for a robust, unified approach to hardware and software co-existence for network programmability. With P4-TC, we are bringing in the benefits of P4 programming within the ubiquitous Linux networking stack. P4TC is a P4 Linux kernel-native implementation on top of the Linux Traffic Control (TC) infrastructure that provides a vendor-neutral, kernel-independent and architecture-independent interface for utilizing the Match-Action packet processing paradigm compatible with the P4 specification. In our talk, we will do a deep dive within the design and architecture of P4-TC, as well as illustrate the role that the P4 compiler backend plays for enabling P4-TC within the Linux kernel.
