See projectI had a recruiter try to take advantage of me by getting me to agree to an overly under market rate and when I pushed back on numbers that just did not seem right, they said what what I asked for was severely over market; so instead of being offended I just said no, and then went and did the math and showed them that they were paying severely under market, using the federal governments own publicly available BLS payroll data that the government releases.
This project was a simple 1 day…I had a recruiter try to take advantage of me by getting me to agree to an overly under market rate and when I pushed back on numbers that just did not seem right, they said what what I asked for was severely over market; so instead of being offended I just said no, and then went and did the math and showed them that they were paying severely under market, using the federal governments own publicly available BLS payroll data that the government releases.
This project was a simple 1 day "I was bored" task to export that data into a easy to search and discoverable format by city and location, for every job title, one single time. It was not meant to be a pipeline... but I imagine the code would be reusable if the format used by the federal government for public BLS data dumps did not change.

Probably due to how widely applicable it is outside software development, the idea of division of labor is a widely accepted though at times quite faulty intuition. Dividing labor along technical lines is at first glance deeply in line with this principle. If we focus on a specific tech we get better at that tech, and thus we output more….so goes the (often quite implicit) reasoning. What is almost never grasped is the cost that this kind of division brings. Focusing on tech mean that an individual or team will need outside utilization management - because there’s no real way to determine whether a given business need will drive the level of labor required to keep the specialist busy. This isn’t the only (frequently unconsidered) cost - but even if it was it would be a showstopper - it’s YUGE! :)

OpenAI coming for Meta blood with GPT-4o mini. 60% cheaper than GPT-35-Turbo and more accurate, which means generally it will beat LLaMA 70B Instruct. Not one for hype, but this *right now* is a bit of a gamechanger because productionizing accurate, high parameter LLMs can be nearly impossible from a CapEx standpoint, especially if you're facing direct competition from legacy ML products which may not be as accurate but can operate for much much cheaper right now. LLaMA 70B is a beast though, no shade to my Meta homies.
