“I had the pleasure of hiring, working with, and managing Dave Morrison at Cambridge Associates. Dave completely integrated into the team becoming a thought leader, a mentor, and a key SME in the design, architecture, development, and risk evaluation of international software development efforts. Throughout his tenure at Cambridge Associates, Dave was a driving force behind process improvement, best practices and architectural evolution for the many products and initiatives managed by the division. Technically, he could learn, adapt and integrate new technology, approaches, architecture and standards quickly and effectively, often leading the team in expertise and played a driving force when the team transitioned from legacy PowerBuilder to C# and .NET. He was a key player in the creation, growth, and support of a communication driven, positive, innovative and open culture. Often mentoring more junior team members, ensuring that his wealth of knowledge was shared among all and that, as an organization, the team drove towards innovative, creative and effective software development for our London, Boston, and Washington DC offices. Dave worked with new and tenured staff to ensure that new ideas, concerns, and risks were identified, communicated, and evaluated. He worked closely with management and peers to align efforts with strategic objectives, ensure expectations were exceeded and timelines consistently met. Finally, Dave could be relied upon to ensure that positive collaborative efforts were taking place within the team, healthy conflict was managed, and every team member felt a level of inclusion only realized in truly high performing teams. Dave was an incredible asset to my team, the organization as a whole, a mentor to other team members, and a thought leader for all complex efforts undertaken. Dave was an incredible asset to my team and would be a very valuable resource to any team invested in him. I believe that he will continue to exceed expectations, contribute to overall team success, and ensure that every peer, colleague and team member he works with feel valued and respected. Sincerely, Dr Mark Bojeun ”

You're struggling to earn your boss's trust as a software engineer. How can you turn the tide in your favor?
Communication is key. When you are facing challenges as an engineer one way to garner support from the team and the boss is to act as the consummate professional. Build trust and support by demonstrating that you are committed to improving the software solution, and dedicated to solving problems as they arise. Do your best to make deadlines, and acknowledge difficulties as they arise. Building trust with your boss as a software engineer involves open communication, professionalism, and demonstrating your commitment to improvement.

Here's how you can showcase your worth and impact to your boss for career growth.
As you regale your boss with episodes detailing the occasion of your triumphs, you will surely frame yourself as being grateful. Gratitude is perhaps the most central theme in your modest and awe-inspiring odyssey - the tale of your wonderful achievements. In recounting the events leading to your accomplishments, the boss will appreciate your gratitude. Perhaps the boss played a supporting role in the overall victory? Without the bosses help and support how would you have been empowered to do such wonderful things that add tremendous value to the company? Be (shamelessly) modest and grateful when describing your super awesome adventures. They just may be noted as illustrious victories and you may get promoted with a raise.
