Its proposal season! So let’s talk about something that can make or break your federal proposal: PRICING. It's like walking a tightrope, right? You want to be competitive, but you also need to keep the lights on and maybe even buy a fancy coffee now and then. So, how do you hit that sweet spot? Here are some suggestions: **Know Your Costs Inside Out**If you don't know your costs, you're guessing. And guessing is for lotteries, not federal proposals. Break down every little expense from paper clips to personnel. Trust me, it adds up faster than you can say "over budget." ***Research the Competition**Ever wonder what your competitors are up to? Of course you do! Dig up past award data to see the winning bids. It’s like peeking at their homework, but totally legal and way less awkward. Use USAspending.gov it’s free! **Value Over Price**Remember, it's not just about being the cheapest. Highlight the unique value you bring to the table. Maybe your team has years of experience or your tech is cutting-edge. Make sure the buyer knows why you’re worth every penny. **Flexibility is Key** I like to offer options if possible. Think of it like a menu at your favorite restaurant. Maybe the client doesn’t want the full three-course meal. Sometimes, a well-priced appetizer does the trick. You can build on the relationship and position yourself in the meantime. **Watch for Red Flags** Keep an eye on risky areas that could blow your budget. Unexpected costs are rarely fun and usually expensive. Plan for contingencies so you're not caught off guard. If you need to add more risk than so be it. **Communicate Clearly** Be transparent about your pricing. Break it down so the buyer knows exactly what they’re paying for. It’s like showing your work in math class – it makes everyone more confident in the final number. Not to mention it looks so much more professional when you incorporate a level of effort (LOE) breakdown and Basis of Estimate (BOE). Pricing isn't just about throwing out a number like 20% and hoping for the best. Small Businesses depend on their ability to trust their service providers (HR, payroll, etc.) to honor the terms of their agreements and actually provide the service they are being paid for. Our previous payroll provider (Paycom Payroll LLC) had been in place since 1 July 2022. In May 2024, we made the decision to change providers. We provide written notification and established the last pay period to take place on 28 June, to ensure no issues with the quarterly tax withholding and filings would take place. More than two months later, this generic form letter was received by registered mail with an enclosed check telling me that they were unable to contribute on behalf of our company. Of the three locations, two have been in place during the entire period of service and the third for almost the entire calendar year. The 1st and 2nd quarter tax filing reports showed that the tax withholding and amounts 'paid' matched. However, this along with a returned check states amounts were not deposited as expected. I would caution any business, small or otherwise to not utilize Paycom Payroll LLC as their HR and payroll provider. There were a number of factors that contributed to the decision to change providers, but this solidifies the fact we made the right decision.

Recently discovered that Bill Swanson, the former CEO of Raytheon, popularized "The Waiter Rule": 👉 "If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they're not really a nice person." He also warns to "watch out for people who have a situational value system, who can turn the charm on and off depending on the status of the person they are interacting with." I feel like recruiters are in a similar intermediary / service-oriented role, except instead of restaurant hospitality it's the hospitality of hiring. So how a candidate interacts with a recruiter, and whether there's something in it for them or not, can reveal a lot about situational vs core value systems. Have you ever seen someone break "The Waiter Rule", and if so then on a scale of 1-10, how much ick did it give you? 😅 #chiefofstaff #recruiting

Omni Federal is pleased to announce a recent award to lead the development of SOCOM’s Enterprise Training Marketplace within Digital University. SOCOM recognized a need for a comprehensive, secure, and user-friendly marketplace where SOCOM units can easily explore, select, purchase, and manage approved training from reputable vendors. Speed, convenience, and flexibility are the three core principles of this simplified procurement process. SOCOM requires an Amazon-like platform with automated procurement features that can be easily changed and adapted to meet evolving mission requirements. This single mission-enabled platform will allow users to acquire the necessary training needs of Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), Theater Special Operations Commands (TSOCs), Special Missions Units (SMUs), and SOCOM service components. We leveraged a deep understanding of SOCOM’s distinct enterprise training requirements to conceptualize a unique SOCOM Training Marketplace design within Digital University. Our initial focus is to create a streamlined user interface and enhance the user experience for effortless navigation through the extensive pool of 100+ SOCOM-specific vendors. To capture SOCOM stakeholder needs, Omni is applying our commercially proven Human-Centered Design process adapted to meet the mission and security needs of DoD agencies. Our scope of work includes integrating an easy-to-use and streamlined procurement process, initially developed, and validated by the Digital University Program Team to expedite the acquisition of training resources. The specific and unique SOCOM Training Marketplace procurement process seamlessly aligns with the well-defined and strategically crafted set of Digital University acquisition stages, enabling integration of the two to meet specific training requirements established by the SOCOM enterprise.
