Spicy Times… 🌶️ Why do producers keep choosing third-party IT service companies to manage OT infrastructure? 🤔 📞 Got a call from an operator—HMI servers are down, and the OWS can’t connect to the redundant gateway. 💻 I log in remotely to check things out. Sure enough, no gateway servers online. But I can’t even see why the VMs are down because I don’t have the necessary access privileges. 📧 So, I have to email the help desk—because, in the IT world, real people don’t seem to exist. Yes, I’ve tried getting phone numbers, but no luck 🤣. 🕰️ Three hours later, the servers are back on. Yep, it powered off by itself…. The response I got? “We fixed it.” 🧾 I knew it couldn’t be that simple, so I dug into the Windows logs and found the error in the picture below. 🤷‍♂️ My question is, if you can’t properly manage a client’s infrastructure, why even bother? Lost production and running blind to safety is a serious issue. This is a clear reminder to invest in an integrator/vendor that has your best interest. 🔧 And let’s not forget—it’s just as important to invest in highly available infrastructure from the start to avoid these headaches altogether.
