In this post, we want to spotlight one of our Operations Consultants, Carl Pitts, with a few Q&As to help you get to know our team and hear firsthand how we aim to serve our clients. What do you do? I serve our clients on their TA improvement journey focused on the TA Operations/Production organization. This includes leading interactive operations deep dive workshops, challenging and improving mechanical and operations planning/scheduling practices, enhancing capital project work processes and practices, and collaboratively delivering CruzAlta’s CAPE readiness methodology with TA Management consultants. I also work regularly with clients’ TA leadership team to help them with the preparation for a successful event. What do you enjoy most about your role? I really enjoy mentoring TA people and teams. More specifically, I enjoy helping identify improvement opportunities and helping clients implement innovative solutions on their journey to successful TA events; this is a means to “give back” to the industry that I grew up in and pass on my experience as a means for continuously improving in all aspects of the TA process (i.e. equipment strategies, work selection, planning, estimating, scheduling and all aspects of execution, operations practices, etc.). What are key focus areas in your work? Key elements in my work include all aspects of TA readiness and specifically TA operations preparations. I also focus on shutdown and clearing/decon activities, managing the mechanical window, and preparing for and starting up the operating unit(s). We spend a significant amount of time focusing on the shutdown and startup phases of the event, and how they interface with mechanical handover. Gaining efficiencies in those areas will shorten the duration of the “bookend” windows to minimize waste and maximize production. What are your end goals with clients? As a CruzAlta Artisan, I partner with our clients to increase the probability for a predictable TA event by helping them navigate through the preparation and execution phases to identify and capitalize on continuous improvement opportunities. APA Corporation (Apache) Announces $950 million Permian Basin Asset Divestiture According to an APA Corporation (parent company of Apache) press release put out this afternoon, APA has entered into an agreement for the sale of non-core producing properties in the Permian Basin to an undisclosed buyer for $950 million. The properties are located in the Central Basin Platform, Texas and New Mexico Shelf, and Northwest Shelf and currently represent estimated net production of 21,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d), of which approximately 57% is oil. John J. Christmann IV, CEO of APA Corporation stated, “The net impact of our acquisition of Callon Petroleum and the follow-on asset sales is that APA has increased its onshore U.S. production by approximately 66,000 boe/d in 2024.” Pro-forma fourth-quarter U.S. production guidance for APA is 307,000 boe/d which is 34% above the company’s fourth-quarter 2023 production. I love re-engineering workforces by creating new roles to 'delegate and elevate'. Offshore team members take on tasks, freeing onshore staff for higher-value work. Texas has officially approved the Permian Basin Reliability Plan, a major initiative designed to upgrade the electric grid in the Permian Basin. The project aims to strengthen infrastructure to meet rising energy needs. Key Points: Projected Demand: Expected to reach 26 GW by 2038. This is about one-third of Texas' current peak summer electricity usage, highlighting the region's fast-growing energy needs. Investment: Estimated costs range between $12.95 billion and $15.32 billion. Impact: The plan is crucial for supporting the booming oil and gas sector, data centres, and other emerging industries in the region. By upgrading its infrastructure, Texas is showing a strong commitment to keeping up with future energy needs, while also backing key industries that play a crucial role in the state’s economy.
