I’m intrigued by the internals of JAX’s transformations, such as jax.grad and jax.jit. JAX’s documentation briefly introduces the concept of a **Tracer**—a stand-in for JAX Arrays that records execution progress and captures information about intermediate results. Here’s a simple code snippet that reveals some intriguing properties of Tracers: 1. Each transformation relies on a specific type of tracer. For instance, jax.jit uses DynamicJaxprTrace, while jax.grad utilizes JVPTrace. 2. When we compose transformations, such as jax.jit(jax.grad(f)), the traces are composed—meaning the primals in JVPTrace are traced with DynamicJaxprTrace.

And folks, I was wrong in this post: https://lnkd.in/gGWhWwDW Today I had the opportunity to chat with Andrew Regenscheid from National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) about NIST SP800-63B rev4 draft, and specifically the guidance on synced passkeys. During our chat I shared my understanding of the NIST guidance based on my reading of the document. Andrew helped clarify the intent, which was not how I and others read the draft guidance. Per our discussion, credential service providers (CSPs) should consider synced passkeys as AAL2 compatible credentials. We talked about how I and others arrived at the conclusion that synced passkeys did not all meet this bar, and I shared thoughts on how NIST can clarify their writing to establish a common understanding of the guidance. Thank you Andrew for taking the time to chat, helping me understand NIST's perspective, and being open to constructive feedback.

🚀 Just wrapped up a massive project before lunch! 💻☁️ Today I generated ~11,000 lines of TypeScript to create a serverless, cloud-native EHR backend that pumps out mock data in the FHIR standard. This week I had the pleasure of teaching folks at Vail Communities (Thank you, friends!) how to use Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) to keep their tactics and strategy firmly tied together. I added a little bit of feature writing and a small dash of continuous discovery to show them how they can create short cycle times, learn quickly which ideas are worth pursuing, and eliminate “work that isn’t working.” Whatever “Team Cheese” and “Team Chocolate” may have learned, I feel like I got the better end of this encounter. Here are a few things I learned again for the first time: * Humans tend to think in solutions. It takes practice to separate the requirement, value, desired outcome, pure opportunity from how we imagine we could solve it. * Strategy work is iterative. The more we tease out the solution, the more it reveals about the problem or opportunity. This is one of many reasons why it’s important to revisit our strategy often. * However simple and universal this strategic framework may be, it works. It works for everything I’ve ever applied it to. It is highly translatable across idioms, jargons, and industries. I’m open to having it fail me, but it hasn’t happened yet. * The cat is there for no business purpose, but it DID help us start off with a mood of spontaneity and warmth. Preparing and conducting this workshop was fun for me, as natural as breathing, and was a joyful exercise of my vocational purpose in life. Now how do I get to do it all day as my job?

But in my experience, code reviews are essential for maintaining code quality, enforcing standards, and fostering team collaboration. They’re not just about catching bugs. Reviews improve code readability, consistency, and knowledge sharing. Rushing or skipping them often leads to technical debt and issues down the road. As teams scale and deadlines tighten, AI-powered code generation tools can help by automating repetitive tasks like code duplication checks or comment generation. But here’s the thing—AI tools don’t replace code reviews. AI can’t make judgment calls about: - Whether code aligns with business goals - How well it fits into the architecture - Whether there’s a better solution AI should assist, not replace, human judgment. Let AI handle the grunt work, but real code quality comes from thoughtful, human-driven reviews. Code reviews are opportunities for growth and quality—don’t treat them as a checkbox.
