HR leaders need to excel at fostering collaboration among teams, build strong partnerships with all stakeholders, and bridge the gap between management and employees to align and connect for a healthy and performance driven culture.  A Head of HR is there to create a unified and inclusive work environment where people thrive and are motivated to bring their best, where ALL voices can be heard, valued, and also held accountable to the aligned vision and outcomes. Pace and prioritization of programs and initiatives is beyond important.  You can move swiftly, as long as there are clear plans and measurables, thoughtfulness of infrastructure, and create opportunities to pivot as needed for better agility along the way.  

My personal quote, “If it wasn’t measured, it didn’t happen”. It is important to tie the financial impacts of HCM (HXM) strategies to include savings and reduction of costs via creative solutions and improved retention. Equally important to tie impacts to revenue in activities like learning & development or leadership coaching that fortifies a performance driven culture and reigns in profit. Measurement of actions and outcomes allow HR leaders to pivot or course correct areas that need more attention and celebrate (and share) wins with teams/leadership to continue to earn and hold the “seat at the table” with operations and finance. You need a Research, Recommend, Review, Repeat cycle to continue momentum and positive outcomes.

A consultative approach to HCM (HXM) is to partner and protect vs police it. I am deeply motivated by continued education in various HXM learnings that fortify my ability to be ahead of the trends and best-in-class practices. Leaning on my diverse background and my years of experience, I am able to go beyond just supporting the business as the head of HR, but also equally driven to build the business.  As a key advisor to executive team, I not only dive into understanding the operational goals but also the industry, competitors, and external drivers, while translating those variables into strategies that mitigate risk, leverage opportunities, and allow me to steward positive change for all stakeholders and partners.  

As a culture champion that focuses on the ‘people experience’, I continue to be drawn to the beliefs and behaviors inspired by leaders and teams that share a contagious spirit of service excellence.  This is where my passion is rooted while thoughtfully balanced with a company’s mission and values.  The investment in attraction, engagement and retention of talent is always the priority, and it’s motivating to measure the success by pointing to the ROI of a progressive HR team through KPIs. It’s important to remind; teammates and leadership create culture, HR is simply the guide and engine the help propel the culture forward.
