The new Oncology Care Model Cancer Care report showcases patient cancer journeys and pinpoints what matters most to people undergoing cancer treatment. It is designed for patients and caregivers to connect and learn about cancer treatment from a patient’s perspective.

Prateek Sharma, MD, FASGE, ASGE President-elect and Chair of the AI Task Force, met with U.S. Representative Ami Bera, MD (CA-6th) to discuss ASGE priorities related to AI in Healthcare. Rep. Bera, cofounder of the Health Care Innovation Caucus and member of the House Task Force on AI, issued a RFI on the intersection of AI and healthcare. During the meeting, Dr. Sharma highlighted ASGE’s mission to seamlessly integrate AI into GI care, enhance patient outcomes, and drive innovation in gastroenterology through cutting-edge AI solutions. In the RFI, Rep. Bera stated that “if used responsibly AI has the potential to transform efficiency of patient are, improve health outcomes, lower costs and make other advancements in the field.” ASGE agrees and will be responding to the RFI. The RFI will provide vital information to the AI Task Force on the current state of AI in the healthcare industry. Rep. Bera is a strong advocate on issues related to physician payment and prior authorization, and in 2023 he received the ASGE Congressional Service Award for his efforts. #GIEndoscopy #Endoscopy

📣 Great piece from Medscape on how independent oncology practices combat hospital consolidation. As Dr. Jeff Patton, MD says: "Some hospitals are pretty predatory in their approach." 🦅 While the Affordable Care Act encouraged consolidation to improve efficiency, Dr. David Eagle says the 340B drug discount program may contribute more to consolidation. "Those 340B dollars are worth a lot to hospitals. The program "creates an appetite for nonprofit hospitals to want to grow their medical oncology programs." 🔥 In the face of hospital consolidation, independent practices are increasingly turning to management service organizations, like OneOncology, to maintain autonomy, hold on to referrals, and benefit from access to a wider network of peers and recently approved treatments such as chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapies. 💡 Dr. Davey Daniel cites how bispecific leukemias, lymphomas, and multiple myeloma therapies have typically been administered at academic centers because of the risk for cytokine release syndrome, but physician leaders in the OneOncology network "came up with a playbook on how to do it safely" in the community setting.
