#Payments #Tokenization enhances security in payments by replacing sensitive payment information, like credit card numbers, with unique, non-sensitive tokens. This process prevents actual card / bank account details from being exposed during transactions, significantly reducing the risk of data breaches and enhancing ability of issuers to protect their customers from #fraud breaches. #Payment credentials tokenization as a concept was introduced 10 years ago, by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and other major card schemes. It is equally applicable to bank accounts. (2)Yes, the numbers are crazy. Amazon CEO Jassy: "...saved 4500 of developers-years of work for approximately $260M of annualized efficiency gains...'. Indeed these numbers are crazy but they shouldn't be. Organizations that are not already deep into applying AI to various stages of the software development chain are destined to lose. And I mean DEEP application of AI rather than various shades of AI washing. Requirements generation and tracking, code and test generation, AI driven CI/CD automation (review, test, and staging, team communications, etc). And of course application of organizational RAG everywhere possible (read backend persistent data). If teams are still waxing philosophically on the merits of OOP vs functional, declarative vs imperative, documentation, styles and linting, etc, they are wasting their time and that of the organization. These matter to us. They do not matter to the machine.

When tuning code, sometimes using this effective trick may save you time: Result Cache hint or function. There could be multiple reasons why your code is under performing, a common issue is repetition of queries which access a large volume of data but returns a small dataset. The Result Cache hint or function can avoid redundant operations by caching the results of such queries or PL/SQL functions. Best and Worst - Part 4 Continuing the sharing of some of the best habits and worst errors of my tech career to date. Today’s are the human focused pair! 1. Best Habit - technology is still all about people. It took me a while to learn this (and a few mistakes!). Relationships are so important and like all great things of value require effort and intent. Make friends and it’ll make everything much easier! It helps if you like to chat ;-) But if you don’t, make quiet friends and do favours whenever you can so you have credit! 2. Worst error - work life balance matters and I’ve learned and re-learned this several times. None of us are superhuman, be kind to yourself and remember your career is a marathon not a sprint. Rest when you need to and if it gets too much, rebalance. Finding your own limit is important, different for us all and varies when you have competing demands at home. Remember to put yourself first. I learned this 25 years ago and then again every 5 years since ;-) Ps a huge thank to all my amazing work friends at JPMorganChase - you’re my favourites! #technology #best #worst

I was having a play around with encore.dev over the weekend, a framework for Go and Typescript to build backend applications fast. Infrastructure is tightly coupled to application code. You can annotate a Go function with "//encore:api public" and encore takes care of the rest. I did an "encore push" to a brand new AWS account, and 5 mins 30 seconds later I had an Internet facing API serving requests with all the networking/ECS/ECR bells and whistles included. The velocity to get up and running with opinionated infrastructure is pretty great, but it did create 35+ new resources in my AWS account, and for only 1 of those could I alter the parameters (# of Fargate instances) via encore itself. It also required an Administrator attached policy to assume role in to my account (separate discussion - more traditional tooling models with Jenkins/ArgoCD pipelines also have this issue). This leads to some interesting discussions around operating model. For teams using frameworks like encore.dev, where do you draw the line between the developers and having them fully own the infra they design and build, and horizontal teams like platform & security providing consumable components that meet your orgs best practices. I guess theres no one size fits all here, will really depend on your org, your teams and what works for you. Some advantages I see of a framework like this is that you get insane developer velocity and productivity and you also benefit from strongly opinionated infrastructure based on the frameworks creators compounded experience. That said, a quick scan with Security Hub with the AWS Foundational Security Best Practices identified 9 (1 high, 8 medium) severity mis-configurations with the stack that the encore push created. I think these frameworks have their place, but you really need to iron out your operating model. #cloudsecurity #platformengineering #sre #aws

I’m noticing that cloud services are becoming increasingly expensive, especially for small businesses and smaller applications. I believe there’s a significant gap in the market for providers with more accessible pricing structures tailored to these needs. I’m curious to hear what others are using for personal projects or small-scale apps outside of the major cloud providers. Any recommendations? And before anyone mentions free tiers or “serverless” options, I’ve found they often come with hidden limitations and unexpected costs. #CloudComputing #TechThoughts #UnpopularOpinion
