In our work on behalf of and with displaced adolescent girls, we know adolescent girls forced to flee their homes due to crisis or conflict often face greater and unique risks to their safety, lack access to basic health care, and take on more tasks in their families. On #DayoftheGirl, the Women's Refugee Commission is reflecting on these challenges and what we’re doing to improve adolescent girls’ lives. It’s been one year of tragedy and absolute heartbreak. The war in Gaza has been devastating for women and girls. Read why women must be at the center of responding and rebuilding for any hope of a lasting peace:

Feeling inspired after last night’s gala fundraiser for Women's Refugee Commission, celebrating its 35th anniversary. The distinguished honorees were celebrated for their work in the global crises, as well as conflict in Sudan, Nepal as well as the US/Mexico border. I had the great honour of presenting one of the founders….my dear 🫶🏻cousin (and living legend!) Liv Ullmann. She spoke from her heart ❤️ about the plight of displaced women and girls and reinforced how our work in this space is so desperately needed. I also had the opportunity to meet Dina Dublon, who was the first female Board Member 💪🏼at Accenture and former WRC Board Member. I’ve always admired her as a trailblazer so it was so nice to meet her in the flesh. Thank you to Ashley Warburton, MFin, CFA Rob Tomchick and Tyler Craig and his wife Jamie for joining me at my table. Also thank you to my PwC colleagues for joining at the PWC table! Thank you for your donations and your passion for this topic! Donation link below 👇🏻 https://lnkd.in/ePBppAKW

On this International Day of Non-Violence, I’m reflecting on the incredible Voices of Courage Awards Gala for the Women’s Refugee Commission. Hearing the stories of resilient women refugees reminded me of the vital importance of peace and compassion in the world. Their journeys are powerful examples of strength, but also a reminder that we must continue to advocate for non-violence and protection for all. Together, we can build a world where no one has to flee their home in search of safety. #InternationalDayOfNonViolence #WomensRefugeeCommission #Peace #VOCGala2024 Women's Refugee Commission Ruchira Gupta Abigail Disney

As a single mother of two daughters, Deepti Gurung faced the harsh reality of Nepal’s gender-discriminatory citizenship laws, which prevented her from conferring citizenship to her children. This personal injustice fueled her work to advocate for the rights of women to pass on their nationality on an equal basis with men. Inspired by her own experience, Deepti established the Citizenship Affected People’s Network (CAPN), an organization led by affected people that is dedicated to addressing the plight of stateless individuals and those impacted by discriminatory nationality laws and other nationality right violations. She advocates for recognizing gender-equal nationality rights and statelessness as pressing human rights issues, rather than merely a political or diplomatic concern. The Women's Refugee Commission named Deepti a 2024 Voice of Courage at our #VOC2024 gala for her tireless work on behalf of stateless individuals in Nepal and around the world. Thank you, Deepti, for your courage and commitment to creating a more equitable world.
