🤖  New WAI Legal Insights article: “A story of AI enhancing participatory democracy in South Africa”. We are delighted to share the latest Women in AI Legal Insight blog! In this article, Karen Willenberg, a seasoned regulatory lawyer and founder and CEO of the South African start-up NeithAI, explores how AI can improve participatory democracy. Focusing on the example of her home country -  South Africa - Karen tells us more about how AI can help government officials to swiftly and accurately process and analyse large volumes of public submissions. This is particularly important to ensure true engagement of the public.  In countries like South Africa, where participation is a hard-won right deeply tied to the country’s democratic identity, AI can help give voice to the citizens and make sure that it is thoroughly reflected in policy-making without being buried in data. 📢  Announcement: Welcoming Monica Cerutti as Women in AI’s New Ambassador for Italy! 🇮🇹 Our own Darya Majidi is passing the torch as Women in AI’s Ambassador for Italy to Monica Cerutti, as she steps into her new role as President of UN Women Italy. Congratulations Darya! You have the full support of the Women in AI community. We are thrilled to introduce Monica Cerutti as our new Ambassador for Women in AI Italy. With a distinguished career in both the tech and public sectors, Monica brings a wealth of experience to her role, including her work in AI research, digital civic technologies, and social inclusion at the University of Turin. Monica holds degrees in Computer Science and Telecommunications and has spent years in IT, starting as a programmer and analyst in industrial automation and telecommunications. She’s also served as a public administrator in Turin, advocating for equal opportunities, environmental sustainability, and civil rights. Her contributions extend to numerous leadership roles, including as a spokesperson for the Council of European Municipalities, board member at SMAT, and promoter of the digital gender impact initiative with Donne 4.0. Together, we are building a vibrant and resilient community.
