This summer, the University of Delaware hosted 19 young women from sub-Saharan Africa as part of the U.S. State Department's Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI) Madeleine K. Albright Young Women Leaders Program. Led by Amanda Bullough (Workman) (she/her), associate professor of management and global leadership, and Dan Bottomley, from the Department of Political Science and International Relations, the program emphasized female and economic empowerment. Participants engaged in leadership training, professional development, community service, and study trips. They met with leaders such as U.S. Senator Christopher Coons and State Senator, Kyle Evans Gay, and participated in reflective sessions to share their experiences. Each participant developed a project to implement in their home countries, addressing issues like menstrual education and gender-based violence. This immersive program highlighted both the challenges and triumphs of balancing professional and personal lives, as illustrated by Bullough's own experiences. The program, which has been running since 2017, continues to foster a network of empowered women leaders who are committed to making a difference.

WLI continues to support ongoing scholarships. We hosted our 3rd half-day research symposium with colleagues across campus to explore gender equity and women’s leadership. Three presentations highlighted rules and regulations to enable more female representation on board (Laura Field), how women left out of scholarly networks hurt their careers (Carlos J. Asarta, Ph.D.), and an exploration into the paradox and Both/And of women's leadership (Wendy K. Smith). We look forward to continuing to support these and other scholarly efforts. #udgrad2024 #leadership #leadershipdevelopment #womenineconomics #womeninbusiness #womenleadership #womensupportingwomen #womenleaders #instagram #ınstamood #udel #leadershipcoaching #womeninbusiness #womeninstem #corporateidentity #changeleadership

Women's Leadership Initiative at UD reposted this
Last week I was honored to be recognized by the Fund for Women (FFW) with the 2024 Driving Force Award and I want to take this opportunity to highlight the impact this organization has had on women and children in the state of Delaware. Formed by 16 women who wanted to make a difference in their community, the FFW endowment continues to grow while granting almost $4MM to organizations in Delaware. For me, this organization was a way to have a meaningful impact on the welfare of others, but I never expected that I would gain so much by joining this amazing group of women and men who recognize the importance of supporting community and the power of philanthropy. Thank you to the Fund for Women at the Delaware Community Foundation led by Chair Pam Cornforth, and incoming Chair Molly Giordano for a wonderful evening that I celebrated with my entire family including Kyle Evans Gay and Elizabeth Rattray.
