Did you know Metro has the most elevators and escalators of any transit system in North America? Meet Anthony, one of our dedicated Vertical Transportation Safety Inspectors. He ensures our elevators and escalators are operating safely and efficiently. In 2021, Metro kicked off its second escalator replacement project, aiming to replace 139 escalators across 34 stations by 2028. These new escalators are more durable, reliable, and feature LED lighting and UV-C disinfection. Anthony plays a crucial role in making sure our vertical transportation equipment stays in a state of good repair, following all jurisdictional rules and regulations. We’re lucky to have him on our team! #wmata

"I will help you in any way I can." Will you invest in a career with MTPD? "We’re looking for individuals who are driven, self-motivated, self-starters, and with a vision," Sergeant Moreland emphasized. Meet Sergeant Hodge, honored with a Meritorious Service Award for his leadership in numerous high-profile arrests. Under his direction, officers in his unit were able to track an armed robbery suspect from the Wheaton Metro Station and make an arrest. He excels in making connections with local partners and supporting officers in building partnerships with local agencies such as the Metropolitan Police Department and Montgomery County Special Assignment Team. “We help each other,” he said. “Using technology, like our camera systems on buses and trains.” “The hard work by officers in my unit directly contributed to my success as a supervisor,” he added. Metro's Art in Transit program invites artists/artist teams with a demonstrated history of completing complex, permanent, public art projects to submit their qualifications for a permanent public artwork for the Dupont Circle Metro Station’s iconic North Entrance. The selected artists will develop an aesthetically attractive, site-specific public artwork that captures WMATA’s mission, and reflects the artistic, cultural and/or historical interests of the surrounding communities. The public artwork is to be implemented on the sloped surface within the circular opening of the North Entrance escalator well and integrate elements of biophilia. Last week, Metro’s Occupational Health & Wellness (OHAW) team and the Advancing Women of WMATA (AWOW) employee resource group hosted two “P.I.N.K.I.E.” parties in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness. Team members donned pink socks and explored booths that featured fun giveaways and essential information on breast health, self-exams, and annual check-ups. For those unable to attend, the pink socks were still a hit, with many employees sending in photos to show their support for the cause. A big thanks to Metro Wellness and AWOW for coming together to create such an engaging and informative event! #BreastCancerAwareness #wmata

It’s a testament to Metro's commitment to delivering safe, reliable service across the region. A big thank you to everyone involved in making the MICC a success. We look forward to even more progress in the years ahead. #wmata

🚍Bus Lane Success🚍 Over the summer, the Maryland State Highway Administration teamed up with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and the Montgomery County Department of Transportation to create bus-only lanes along Georgia Avenue in Montgomery County. The bus lanes increased the average number of people moved along the corridor per hour by 900. Bus speeds also increased as much as 16%. There were four fewer crashes between Glenmont and Silver Spring during June and July of 2024, compared to the same time last year. Learn more about the bus lanes and the pilot project continuing through Dec. 31 - https://lnkd.in/eT6bHq-x #Transit #Bus
