We are making great progress at our new development in our hometown of Kittery, Maine. Over the past 6+ weeks we completed demo, site work and now have a beautiful new foundation ready for framing. We have also been working on some different ways to share more about the design thinking behind what will soon be our new studio, gallery and apartments. Our architectural designer, Glen, worked up this fabulous illustration to accompany an upcoming feature in Maine Home Design Magazine. We recently participated in the Town of Kittery community design charrette to consider options for rezoning the Kittery Business Park to allow for much needed housing. After a community listening session we spent a day with other community members and design colleagues coming up with concepts to share at the end of the day. The Workforce Housing Coalition facilitated the event. Our group came up with ideas that included a village of various single family housing types and accessory dwelling units - similar to other vibrant neighborhoods we have in Kittery now. Additionally another area was designated with larger developments to include affordable housing - tied together through a network of shared walking trails and amenities. We look forward to following along as the town continues to explore these options and we will continue supporting thoughtful ways to add much needed housing to our home town. APPROVED! Very happy to announce that our design for two additions at 96 State St. in Portsmouth, NH has been approved by the Historic District Committee! Our wonderful clients and owners of the building (and Domo sushi restaurant) will now be able to move forward with a complete renovation of the restaurant and a change of use and expansion of the second and third floors to provide workforce housing 🙌 We are pleased to have found a design solution that meets the owners needs while respecting the importance of the original historic building. It’s a beautiful day to take a virtual walk around 3 Walker ☀️ We particularly love the way the two types of siding wrap around the building: 🔨Corten steel siding drapes down the third story and around the left to the front entrance and will naturally rust over time. 🌲Thermally modified wood (from right here in Maine) wraps the first and second floor as horizontal shiplap and a articulating ribbon course of custom shingles that will naturally weather to a silver gray over time. We will be sharing more about the specific products and details used over the course of the project!
