On April 23, Williams & Connolly partner Lisa Blatt argued Starbucks Corp. v. McKinney, her 50th argument before the Supreme Court, and on June 13, 2024, the Court ruled in Starbucks’ favor, holding that when considering the National Labor Relations Board’s request for a preliminary injunction under Section 10(j) of the National Labor Relations Act, district courts must apply the traditional four factors articulated in Winter v. Natural Resources Defense Council, Inc. The Williams & Connolly team representing Starbucks also included partner Sarah Harris, associates Tyler Becker, Noah McCullough, and Joshua Hanley, and alum Edward Pickup. Partner Lisa Blatt was featured in an article published by the The University of Texas at Austin School of Law’s Texas Law Magazine. Titled “The Indomitable Lisa Blatt ’89,” the article discusses Lisa’s recent milestone of arguing 50 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, as well as her overall approach to advocacy. It describes her as “the most active female member, and among the all-time winningest advocates, of the SCOTUS bar in United States history.” The article quotes Lisa as saying, “[m]y style, if it’s unique, it’s that I have this very strong view that truth is the best form of advocacy.”
