Over the summer, USG partnered with Envision Unlimited to donate materials for their project on Chicago’s southwest side. The Envision Dream Home is a pro-bono project designed and constructed solely on donations—from design, construction, and installation to the actual land it’s built upon. USG donated drywall, joint treatment, tile backers, and corner bead to help this dream become a reality. The building will serve as an accessible group home for seniors with intellectual and developmental disabilities, welcoming six residents and providing them with their own spaces. #DidYouKnow that temperatures underground do not change with the seasons? The USG Sperry, IA plant has one of our three underground mines and remains a crisp 50-60 degrees year-round! After descending more than 600 feet in the elevator, mining teams use drilling and blasting equipment to safely mine gypsum to be sent above ground, where it is then processed for use in Sheetrock® Brand wallboard and other USG products. Last month, CGC Inc. invited a group of young women students from five local high schools to the Little Narrows plant to explore career opportunities in our industry through hands-on experience. The students were guided through four engaging sessions throughout the day, including a guided quarry tour, a "Safety Jeopardy" competition, a Women in Manufacturing focus group, and a Mobile Equipment VR Simulator demo. Driven by our organization’s commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in manufacturing, events like these showcase the opportunities for women in manufacturing and inspire the next generation of talent. By engaging with young women early in their career exploration, we hope to demonstrate that manufacturing is a dynamic and rewarding path for anyone.
