Meet Megan! 👋 Megan found her dream job at EPA working in our Office of Community Revitalization. We chatted with her about her work protecting the environment, supporting equity, and promoting economic opportunity in America. While at EPA, Megan has worked on a variety of community revitalization projects. “I focus on how well-planned, compact development can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and prepare for projected climate change impacts.” Having lived in rural and urban environments, Megan is passionate about protecting natural areas and encouraging the growth of safe and walkable cities. She created the Smart Growth Fixes for Climate Adaptation and Resilience resource to highlight specific strategies that communities of all sizes could use to adapt to current and projected climate change while getting multiple other benefits: 🔗https://lnkd.in/gMArbewM “The smart growth strategies that I work on effect and are affected by nearly everything in our lives: our homes, jobs, schools, recreation, transportation, social context, environment, health, and more.” Megan’s favorite part of her work is the positive impact she makes. “When you work on community design and planning, your impact is wider than you might think. EPA gives me the chance to help get those strategies implemented across the country.” Ready to join Megan in protecting human health and the environment? Find your dream job at EPA➡️ epa.gov/careers

About us
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) mission is to protect human health and the environment. EPA works to ensure that: - Americans have clean air, land and water; - National efforts to reduce environmental risks are based on the best available scientific information; - Federal laws protecting human health and the environment are administered and enforced fairly, effectively and as Congress intended; - Environmental stewardship is integral to U.S. policies concerning natural resources, human health, economic growth, energy, transportation, agriculture, industry, and international trade, and these factors are similarly considered in establishing environmental policy; - All parts of society--communities, individuals, businesses, and state, local and tribal governments--have access to accurate information sufficient to effectively participate in managing human health and environmental risks; - Contaminated lands and toxic sites are cleaned up by potentially responsible parties and revitalized; and - Chemicals in the marketplace are reviewed for safety. The agency was founded in 1970 and is headquartered in Washington, District of Columbia with ten additional regional headquarters offices (Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Kansas City, Denver, San Francisco, and Seattle) as well as more than a dozen laboratories, and other regional and programmatic offices.

EPA has released a proposal under the Toxic Substances Control Act to protect workers and consumers from serious health risks. Exposure to the solvent 1-bromopropane can cause serious health effects like skin, lung and intestinal cancer, damage to the liver, kidneys, and nervous system, and effects on the reproductive systems leading to reduced fertility. To address these risks, we are proposing to ban all but one consumer use of 1-BP, as well as some workplace uses, while requiring worker protections for uses that can continue safely. https://lnkd.in/gVxhTs7Y
