Meet Sydney Beck 👋 Sydney is from Newburgh, IN, and has completed her undergraduate degree as a part of the Clark Honors College 3+3 program. She graduated with a major in general social science, a concentration in crime, law, and society, and a minor in Spanish. She also was a Summit Scholar. Sydney has one more year of law school, and then she hopes to move to the Oregon coast where she will pursue a career in criminal law, and child and family law.
While in the 3+3 program, she had advisors to help every step of the way. "They were amazing and went out of their way to help make sure I was staying on track to finish my degree requirements in three years so that I could head straight into law school my fourth year at UO," she said. "They took the time to get to know me as an individual, and I think that really helped in preparing my course schedule for the three years geared towards the classes that I wanted to take, preparing law school application materials, and while in law school."
During her time in law school so far, Sydney was treasurer of the Child and Family Law Association, which allowed her to work with people all over campus and in the local community. She organized an event in the fall that brought in local attorneys where they shared their experiences and made new connections with students.
Reflecting on her undergrad at UO, the connections she has made are what has shaped her experience the most.
“What made my experience at UO special was being able to come to a place where I knew nobody, and now I’m leaving soon with people that I can call my best friends,” she said. “Being able to find that smaller community, whatever it may be, is super important for being successful while in college.”
