Dr. Robert L. Ferris, a head and neck surgical oncologist and leading expert in cancer immunotherapy, has been named the executive director of UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and UNC system chief of oncology services, effective October 1st. An alumnus of #UNC, Dr. Ferris joins Carolina from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he led the Hillman Cancer Center. He has been the principal investigator of multiple cancer immunotherapeutic trials, including several studies investigating treatment deintensification for HPV+ head and neck cancer after transoral surgery. The Hearst Journalism Awards Program named the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media the 2024 overall national champion in collegiate journalism. This marks the school’s sixth consecutive win, ninth in the past decade and 13th since 2002.
