Dr. Robert L. Ferris, a head and neck surgical oncologist and leading expert in cancer immunotherapy, has been named the executive director of UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and UNC system chief of oncology services, effective October 1st. An alumnus of #UNC, Dr. Ferris joins Carolina from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he led the Hillman Cancer Center. He has been the principal investigator of multiple cancer immunotherapeutic trials, including several studies investigating treatment deintensification for HPV+ head and neck cancer after transoral surgery. In collaboration with the North Carolina Office of State Budget and Management, the UNC School of Government is launching a new certification program for state budget professionals. The N.C. Certified State Government Budget Professional Program, a first-of-its-kind certification in the state, features a three-week curriculum tailored to address the specific needs of budget officers. These needs are identified and curated by state budget office staff, state agency leadership and school faculty. The Hearst Journalism Awards Program named the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media the 2024 overall national champion in collegiate journalism. This marks the school’s sixth consecutive win, ninth in the past decade and 13th since 2002. In addition to the overall win, UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media finished first in the multimedia and writing categories and second in the television, photojournalism and audio categories.
