When children are successful readers, they have a better chance at being successful leaders. We had the privilege of delivering 5,800 books to Wichita Public Schools - USD259 students who attend class in Shocker Neighborhood (elementary schools around the WSU main campus) in an effort to improve literacy skills. Thank you Champions for Literacy, Wichita State University Athletics, International Paper and all those who contributed to help these students. #ForceForGood

We fight for the health, education and financial stability of every person in south central Kansas.
About us
At United Way, we’re focused on creating opportunities for all because we know that... • financial stability is more than just having an income. It’s also about having access to job training and financial counseling. • a good job starts with a good education. Entering school ready to learn and graduating on time leads to success in work and life. • a quality life isn’t possible without good health. A neighbor recently diagnosed with cancer, a victim of abuse or someone struggling with mental illness - they all need quality care. We keep tabs on the pulse of the community and look for problems that need solving, people who need help and the local programs that can do the best job. United Way of the Plains helps over 150,000 people in south central Kansas. Who are they? Could be the guy in the cubicle next to you, the boy who sacked your groceries at the store, the elderly woman who walks her dog by your house every day. They’re people like you and me, who live here and need a little help sometimes. But we do more than ask for your money. We ask for your input, conduct research, work with coalitions, write grants, recruit volunteers, distribute in-kind goods and make sure people find the services they need through 2-1-1. We live in a world where too many people struggle with their financial literacy skills. When we teach young adults basics around their finances now, they'll have a better chance at making sounds financial decisions in their future. With technical support from AT&T, we've partnered with Workforce Alliance, Inc. to bring the Digital Financial Literacy Empower initiative to Wichita. We're working with young adults to help them better understand financial basics, like different types of financial institutions, how direct deposit works, and much more. #ForceForGood #LiveUnited

Thanks to our donors, we were able to serve over 12,000 children with tools to improve their literacy skills through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. If you live in select Sedgwick, Sumner or Butler county zip codes, your infant to four-year-old could have books delivered to their doorstep. Low barrier bank accounts can be hard to find. Some in our community live underbanked and that results in them loosing access to direct deposit, check depositing and other basic financial functions. We are working to ensure that everyone in our community has access to safe and affordable bank accounts through the Bank On ICT Coalition. Whether it be direct interactions through community outreach or right here, advocating for people to explore a Bank On certified account: UnitedWayPlains.org/BankOn

We have an amazing community 🥰 Thank you to everyone who helped us with our local Toys For Tots distributions in June! Together, we improved the quality of life for our neighbors. Our local Toys for Tots drive wouldn't be possible without support from Marine Toys for Tots Foundation and Good360. Thank you for your continued investment in south central Kansas. #ForceForGood #LiveUnited

Our Bank On ICT Coalition members were out in the community this week, spreading the word that safe and affordable bank accounts are in reach. With many people across south central Kansas living unbanked, gaining access to services offered through traditional banking, like direct deposit, can be a game changer.
