Together, we have helped save and meaningfully improve more children’s lives than any other humanitarian organization.

#Breastfeeding helps babies get the very best start in life. And worldwide, more and more mothers are exclusively breastfeeding. Just under half of all babies are now exclusively breastfed during their first six months, which helps to protect them from illnesses, support brain development and more. Dangerously high temperatures are adding yet another layer of suffering for children in the #Gaza Strip. Displaced from their homes, living in crowded camps without reliable access to safe water, toilets or washing facilities, families are struggling to survive. UNICEF is there to help.

Every day, almost 2,000 children under 5 die because of health impacts linked to air pollution. We have the power to change this. In Vietnam, a country plagued by poor air quality, UNICEF and the Clarios Foundation are working with communities to clear the way to better health outcomes.

“Children and young people are the future of #Bangladesh," says UNICEF's Sanjay Wijesekera. "They should be protected when they speak up.” UNICEF has confirmed that at least 32 children were killed during recent protests in Bangladesh, with many more injured and detained. We condemn all acts of violence. Find Wijesekera's full statement here: bit.ly/4c8LL3Z

A devastating update: Famine has been confirmed in #Sudan. "Famine" means that people, including children, have already started dying of hunger and related conditions, including malnutrition and infection. This is the first determination of famine by the Famine Review Committee in more than seven years, and only the third time famine has been confirmed since the monitoring system was created 20 years ago. UNICEF and the UN World Food Program (WFP) have been warning of the escalating risk to the people of Sudan, particularly children, if urgent aid cannot be delivered to communities trapped in conflict hot spots. We call on all parties to provide safe, unimpeded and sustained humanitarian access — and urge the international community to take action. Sudan's children cannot wait.

UNICEF and the World Food Programme (WFP) have been warning of the escalating risk of famine in #Sudan, particularly for children. And this week, our worst fears have been realized. Famine has been confirmed in Sudan. It’s important to remind ourselves of what this means. “Famine” means that people, including children, have already started dying of hunger and related conditions, including malnutrition. It is not a warning. It is not a threat. It is a reality. Ongoing conflict, displacement, aid restrictions and Impeded humanitarian access have resulted in unimaginable suffering for Sudan’s children and families. An estimated 3.7 million children under the age of five in Sudan are projected to suffer from acute malnutrition in 2024. As UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell stated, “This famine is fully man-made.” UNICEF and WFP call on all parties to guarantee safe, unhindered and sustained humanitarian access across Sudan. We urge the international community to intensify financial support for humanitarian efforts and to use every diplomatic tool available to secure an immediate ceasefire. Sudan’s children cannot wait.
