It's great to see our very own Timothy Rose in these photos! 📸 What a great honor for UNC Global Affairs to be represented in the DAAD German Academic Exchange Service Germany Today program. 🇩🇪
Today we had the immense pleasure of hosting 22 senior-level administrators from universities across Canada and the United States Technical University of Munich as part of the DAAD German Academic Exchange Service Germany Today program. The DAAD Germany Today is an annual, week-long program that supports higher education representatives from Canada and the United States to visit universities and companies in Germany to learn about the German higher education landscape. This year's theme was "New Opportunities and Challenges for German Universities" and covered topics such as adapting to enrollment challenges, adapting to new labor market expectations, and promoting diversity in the student body. Participants came from excellent universities including, but not limited to: Harvard University, Stanford University, Duke University, The University of British Columbia, University of Washington, Northwestern University, Washington University in St. Louis, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Massachusetts Amherst and North Carolina State University. Participants discussed the TUM Excellence Strategy, entrepreneurship and start-up development, research and corporate collaborations, the TUM Think Tank, and TUM global engagement. Many thanks to Dr. Linda Wimmer, Karsten Schacht, Lars Eiermann, and Philip Pfaller from TUM for taking time to present on their work and to Christian Schäfer and Uta Gaedeke from the DAAD for including us in the Germany Today program. On a personal note, I was able to connect with long-term colleagues and friends as well as with several institutions where I have worked previously. It was a joy to interact with this engaged group of individuals. We look forward to keeping in touch and collaborating with all the participants in the future.

🌟 Celebrating 100 Years of the U.S. Foreign Service! 🌟 On May 24, 1924, the Rogers Act established a professional United States Foreign Service—a distinct group of nonpartisan public servants dedicated to advancing America's interests and values abroad. Today, the Foreign Service has expanded into a global network of 16,000 professionals from every state in the nation, serving as America’s eyes and ears on the ground in more than 200 locations worldwide. This year, we celebrate the centennial of the Foreign Service, a time to honor these committed public servants and to acknowledge their impact on American history. The year ahead also marks 100 years since the founding of the American Foreign Service Association; for the past century, we have been advocating on behalf of the Foreign Service and its people. 🎓✨ Check out this great profile on Farisha Ishak (MBA ’24), a remarkable student deeply connected with our strategic partner, the National University of Singapore (NUS). Before completing her MBA at UNC Kenan-Flagler, Farisha was already a successful singer, songwriter, and recording artist. She made history as the first woman to win Singapore’s national English-singing competition, “The Final 1,” and used her platform to advocate for social and political issues. After earning her BA with honors from NUS, Farisha’s career journey took her through roles in public policy and global market research. At UNC, she has been a standout leader, serving as president of Carolina Women in Business and founding Muslims at UNC Kenan-Flagler. Her commitment to diversity and inclusion has earned her multiple awards and recognition as one of the Best & Brightest MBAs from the Class of 2024 by Poets & Quants. Farisha's journey is a testament to the power of global education and partnerships. We're proud to celebrate her achievements and the strong connection between UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School and National University of Singapore. We were so glad to have Dr. Christine Rubas on campus last week. Relationship-building, especially through in-person connection, is essential to maintaining intentional, strategic, comprehensive global partnerships. Our work with University of Tuebingen is a great example of why we do what we do —innovation, education, research, exchange — together.
Feeling blessed 💫, just arrived in Boston after having spent three wonderful days at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Many fruitful and inspiring conversations with the Study Abroad Office, the European Studies Center as well as the Department of Slavic and Germanic Languages ...on common COILs, joint teaching in summer schools, TÜ-VIP and lots and lots of more academic exchange!! Thank you to everybody I met but especially to Melissa and Krista for the wonderful organisation and company 🥰! Until we meet again ....
