Twenty seconds. ⏱️ That is all you have to escape a lithium-ion battery fire, yet more than half of e-bike and e-scooter owners are unaware their devices use these potentially dangerous batteries. With safety standards, we can protect Americans from this risk. That's why we’re calling on Congress to advance the Setting Consumer Standards for Lithium-Ion Battery Safety Act. This week is the National Carbon Monoxide Awareness Association - NCOAA's CO Safety Summit. We’re thrilled to join important discussions on how safety experts, fire service professionals, CO professionals, and more can work together to end carbon monoxide poisoning. UL Standards & Engagement’s Lesley Rohrbaugh presents the latest ULSE consumer behavior, awareness, and perception data related to carbon monoxide detection and prevention. Learn more about current CO awareness in our report 👉 https://utm.guru/uhgG3 #COSafetySummit #CarbonMonoxide

Our recent conversation with Axios underscores the need for comprehensive safety standards when expanding new technologies such as e-bikes, e-scooters, electric vehicles, and more. Current legislation, like the bipartisan Setting Consumer Standards for Lithium-Ion Batteries Act would require the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to issue a safety standard for rechargeable lithium-ion batteries used in e-mobility devices if signed into law. See what Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Dr. Denice Young-Durrant, and David Martin had to say on the future of e-mobility and the importance of safety. 👇 #emobility #ebikes #escooters

Governments across the country, and at the federal level, are taking action to curb deadly e-mobility fires. UL Standards & Engagement’s Dr. Denice Young-Durrant and David Martin joined Axios for a discussion on how they happen and how safety standards reduce the risk. We’d like to thank the Honorable Pete Buttigieg and Michael Berube for contributing to this important conversation as the electrification of transportation continues to advance. Today is our Executive Director Dr. David Steel’s last day at UL Standards & Engagement. We are grateful for his efforts in leading the organization over the last two years, and we look forward to a strong future on the foundation he helped build.
Today is my last day at UL Standards & Engagement. Since I joined ULSE in May 2022, I have had the privilege of leading our team on a remarkable journey as a new organization, built on more than a century of expertise. We have grown as a leading safety non-profit, with 120 years of experience in developing safety standards and a new capability for outreach and advocacy around the world. Our team increased by 50%, adding new talent to accelerate our efforts and to complement the dedicated professionals that have been driving the mission forward for years — and even decades. We opened new offices in Evanston, Ottawa, and Washington, D.C., expanding not only our presence but also our impact. And we put forward many new and updated standards that made the world safer. Looking ahead, I plan to take time to consider the opportunities and adventures to come. In the near term, I am looking forward to attending the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, celebrating the great work of the Paralympics that I have been proud to support for more than a decade. To my UL Standards & Engagement colleagues and the many stakeholders and champions that supported and defined success in the last two years, thank you. I am tremendously proud of what we accomplished in two years, and I look forward to cheering many more achievements from UL Standards & Engagement in the future.
