A Star Among Stars - Ed Bonham leads our photo gallery of veterans who joined our Veterans Day breakfast this morning. Ed is one of the newest members of the US Army Ordnance Corps Hall of Fame. After serving in the Army for more than 30 years, he now serves as a volunteer helping our patients who are recovering from heart surgery. And, we are proud to celebrate with our colleagues across the country as HCA Healthcare has been named a Best Employer for Veterans by Military Times for the fifth consecutive year. #veterans #veteransday

Third Annual Charleston Head and Neck Oncology Symposium - We were honored to have (l) Maie A. St. John, MD, PhD, FACS kick off this year’s event held on the scenic Isle of Palms, SC. More than 100 other specialists attended this year’s symposium. Dr. St. John is Professor and the Chair of the Department of Head and Neck Surgery and Professor of Bioengineering at UCLA and is co-director of the UCLA Head and Neck Cancer Program. His first three hours - We caught up with head and neck cancer specialist surgeon Terry Day, MD, FACS recently in the morning. He had just completed a robotic surgery using a new device and was walking to his clinic to see patients. Please join us as we welcome Matthew Dorman, M.Ed, LPC as our new Director of Clinical Operations at Live Oak Mental Heath & Wellness. Matt’s name and positive influence on expanding access to mental health services is well known throughout SC. Among his many accomplishments was opening one of the first mobile crisis intervention programs in the state. In addition to his clinical background, Matt’s also a lecturer. He’s a graduate of both The Citadel and Charleston Southern University. “My career has been witness to some of the most inspirational achievements of the human spirit. I am inspired each day by the resilience and perseverance of people who, if not for the care of Live Oak Mental Health and Wellness and the behavioral health community, may otherwise suffer in silence. My ‘Why’ is to continue to strive to improve the lives of those living with mental illness.” Prior to joining Live Oak, Matt had already been collaborating with mental health leaders in HCA Healthcare and across the state to help make sure resources across all providers in the region were positioned to manage the rapid growth in the need for mental health services. When Live Oak opened in 2023, it was the first freestanding mental health hospital to open in the Charleston, SC region in more than 30 years. Please join us as we welcome Maury Baker as our new Chief Operating Officer. We’re already benefiting from his knowledge of our health system, Trident Health, and HCA Healthcare. Prior to joining us, he served in the same position at our sister hospital, Summerville Medical Center. Maury says a lesson he learned in grad school at Virginia Commonwealth University has served him well in his career in healthcare. “There is only a one letter difference between ‘networking’ and ‘not working.’ The ability to build relationships with all types of people is critical to becoming a successful executive. And, I’ll be the first to say I’ve benefited from the counsel and friendship of some very smart and thoughtful HCA hospital executives.”
