These photos show the Binti Digitali workshop under the UN Women African Girls Can Code Initiative (AGCCI), which was recently held in Dodoma and brought great joy among the participating girls. This workshop was organized with the aim of empowering girls and young women by equipping them with digital skills that will help improve their lives economically and socially. Through our partnership with Yas Tanzania, we at Apps and Girls participated as stakeholders in the development of girls in the field of technology. In this workshop, we taught skills in Digital Marketing and Graphics Design, which are among the most important and in-demand skills in today’s job market. A total of 50 girls received this practical training, learning how to use technology to create, communicate, and promote products or services digitally. These trainings gave them motivation and knowledge that will be a driving force for their personal and social development. With a shared goal of empowering girls digitally, we believe that women have the power to do great things in the tech sector – when given the right opportunities and a supportive learning environment. By providing them with these modern skills, we prepare these girls to become creative, self-employed, or even gain formal employment in various institutions. At Apps and Girls, we put into practice the belief that every girl has the potential to amaze the world through technology. That is why we are committed every day to creating change by reaching out to them and providing relevant skills that meet today’s needs. We thank UN Women Tanzania and Yas Tanzania for being at the forefront of empowering women and girls, and for partnering with us to ensure this workshop was a great success.

Empowering the Next Generation of Digital Leaders On Saturday, we marked a powerful milestone with a successful completion of the Binti Digitali training, part of the UN Women African Girls Can Code Initiative (AGCCI). 50 young women were trained on different digital skills from coding and robotics, website design and management, graphics design, and digital marketing. These are not just skills, they are tools for transformation. We are investing in a future where girls are not only digitally equipped but also confident, creative, and ready to lead. Since 2024, to date, over 150 girls from Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar have benefited from this initiative. Celebrating the Power of Perseverance and Digital Empowerment Lisa Jones began her journey with coding and entrepreneurship training in 2015. She founded SmartShamba, a digital platform that connects farmers with agricultural experts, and developed an AI-based soil-testing prototype that delivers crop and fertilizer recommendations via SMS. Her ingenuity led her to a scholarship at the African Leadership Academy, and later, she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from the University of Rochester in May 2025.
