We are thrilled to announce that Tierra Climate's CTO Emma Konet has been selected by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) to serve on the Scope 2 Technical Working Group. 🎉 Chosen from over 1,300 applicants, Emma will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of GHG Protocol standards and guidance, which are undergoing the largest revision in over a decade. The Technical Working Groups (TWG) are crucial in developing the technical content needed to meet the evolving demands of global emissions accounting. Reflecting on her selection, Emma said "energy storage is rapidly becoming a pivotal technology to decarbonize the power grid, which is why it's absolutely essential that the impact of storage is considered in the GHGP Scope 2 revision." Alexander Bassen, Independent Standards Board Chair, also praised the selection process: "I’m incredibly impressed at the wealth of expertise across all four Technical Working Groups. With such a high caliber of members, I’m confident that the materials the TWGs craft will be innovative and fit for purpose in this new era of GHG accounting.” With deep expertise in wholesale energy markets and hands-on experience operating some of the earliest grid-scale energy storage systems, Emma brings a wealth of knowledge that will be crucial in this new era of decarbonization. This time with a focus on the climate impact of energy storage and Tierra Climate's solution! 🎉 "Tierra [Climate] is helping develop a type of carbon credit that would let battery operators get paid more by big companies for charging and discharging clean energy. The aim is to set up financial structures similar to renewable-energy credits and power-purchase agreements that allow companies to fund green projects that help reduce their carbon footprint and enable wind and solar firms to make more money. 'With the right incentives and signals, you could have batteries participate in carbon arbitrage' by displacing fossil fuels and accelerating clean-energy deployments, said Jacob Mansfield, Tierra Climate’s CEO."
