We WRK Together!

About us

The WRK Group is a collective of three nonprofits WRKing together to revitalize the Riverside and Northeast Wilmington neighborhoods by creating pathways out of poverty for the lowest-income residents. Our collective mission is to empower the community to reach its full potential by eliminating the barriers of structural racism and revolutionizing teen engagement. About the WRK Group: REACH RIVERSIDE: As a member of the Purpose Built Communities Network, a nationally renowned organization dedicated to holistic community redevelopment, REACH Riverside focuses on the three pillars of revitalization shown to have the greatest impact on long-term community health and well-being - Redevelopment, Education And Community Health. KINGSWOOD COMMUNITY CENTER (KCC): KCC currently offers cradle-to-cane programming for the youngest to the oldest residents of the Riverside community. Programming includes: Kingswood Early Learning Academy (ELA) for ages 1 to 5, before and after school programming for school aged children 5 to 12 years old, and The Jimmy Jenkins Senior Center which offers social, physical, and mental health activities for older adults. The future newly constructed KCC will provide a community specific mix of facilities, programs, and services that honor local history, reflect the priorities of residents, promote healthy lifestyles, create jobs, and reduce crime. THE WAREHOUSE: The Warehouse, working in close collaboration with REACH, is an innovative partnership with more than 130+ teen-serving organizations that provides school-day and summer- and after-school programming where teens can explore, collaborate, discover their passions, and develop skills needed or employment in today's economy. Designed for teens, by teens, The Warehouse provides our city’s youth with the tools and opportunities they need to become confident, courageous, and contributing young adults who will make a positive difference in our world.

The center, managed by The WRK Group, will offer additional space for educational, recreational and support services to meet the diverse needs of the community. The WRK Group is experiencing a whirlwind of events, and I couldn't be more excited about the lineup! Tomorrow we will be hosting our 3rd Annual HBCU Fair at The Teen Warehouse from 4p-7p. Our HBCU fair initiative is one of the many ways we live up to our mission of “Revolutionizing Teen Engagement.” The Warehouse recognizes that college and careers are on the horizon for many of the youth we serve, and we are committed to emphasizing that education is a pathway toward long-term achievements and independence. As an interactive college fair, this event will contribute to existing efforts in the City of Wilmington, to educate and expose the youth and surrounding communities to the culture and impact of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The vision for our HBCU Fair features admission representatives from a variety of HBCUs, members of the Nine Black Greek Letter Organizations, HBCU entertainers, passionate Alumni who showcase the rich and varied components essential to HBCU culture, and community resources. Last year we honored Ashley Christopher for her evident impact on Wilmington and beyond, through her annual HBCU WEEK efforts. This year, we are recognizing Alumni from our home team, our home HBCU, the illustrious Delaware State University. The 3 individuals that we will recognize are doing some amazing WRK and have shown time and time again that they have an unwavering commitment to the youth we serve. This event is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC and we encourage all ages to come out and create this experience with us. If you are an HBCU attendee or Alumni, come out and rep your school! If you are a member of the Divine 9, come out and show what service looks like!
